Re: Is now the time to consider Mancini's tenure at the clubs
Has this really made 17 pages already?

He's won the cup and the league and his lack of success in the CL is quite normal for a club new to it, as we have seen with the Stretford outfit and Chelsea.
If Mancini had not won us the cup and the league but just got us into the top 4 and then got to the quarters or the semis of the CL I would not be a tenth as happy as I am now as a City fan.

I think we all know why he was shown the door at Inter, and this competition has been his archilles heal? Personally I have been questioning where we go from here or a few weeks, and perhaps the coincidence that we have brought in an ex Barca honcho might be a clue for who we are looking at if the trigger is pulled.
But even if Mancini can bring us another premier league trophy this season is that gonna be enough, personally I don't think so. Right now barring a miracle of biblical proportions we are out of the champions league and that just is not good enough.
Be as sarcastic as you like. Doesn't make it any less a fact. Also doesn't mean he shouldn't get at least a couple more seasons to try to put things right.Mancio said:Prestwich_Blue said:That's his fifth CL campaign, 3 of those with a team that won it as soon as they ditched him. All three managers of the teams we've played in the CL this season have looked better than him by a country mile.
We've been a bit unlucky in the groups we've had admittedly but the only time we've looked remotely convincing was at Villareal. If we'd managed to hang on to the lead in Madrid for 5 minutes then things might have turned out a lot different but there again we showed our tactical naivety by sitting far too deep and letting them come at us. Tonight was inexcusable.
The story is that the Sheikh wanted Mourinho at any cost this summer but Khaldoon stuck by his mate. That decision's not looking so clever just at the moment. I trust him in the league and with Ferguson and Wenger reaching the end of their tenures, I'm happy that he's our manager for the moment but we don't even look like we're moving forward in Europe, which is the real test of his and our abilities.
I used to pmsl at Liverpool fans who claimed that Benitez would do far better with the resources at Mancini's disposal but tonight I'm beginning to wonder if they're right.
i can confirm this. the Sheikh really was wanting mourinho , he told it to me too
At this moment, i really don't see it.M19Blu said:When will people realise that Mancini learns from his mistakes? Less than 2 years ago a lot of preople wanted him sacked because we were too defensive against United and Brum at home, FF a few months and we were Cup Winners and in the CL.

So true, thump Swansea, win at West Ham and Mancini will be the dogs bollocks again and we'll all be up for the Ajax home game.
You guys just can't take any comments that oppose to your beliefs or point of view huh?M19Blu said:bluebannana said:this forum when we lose is a joke

Did he learn from last year's CL??? I WOULD SAY 200% NO
Any more substance to add to this? We can all make stuff up, but the facts are that a 5 year contract was signed.Prestwich_Blue said:The story is that the Sheikh wanted Mourinho at any cost this summer but Khaldoon stuck by his mate.

Here quarter final would be a dream after all these performances.
Will he get better? Dont think so.
It's not like he has to beat Real, Bayern, Barca to be succesful.
He has to beat Ajax, Napoli, Dortmund, Villarreal so far.
We could only beat Villarreal last year but do you know they were so shit last year that they got relegated from La Liga? That says a lot about them.
We played 4 matches against Ajax, Napoli, Dortmund and all he could get is 2 points at home, and the Dortmund match was a big fail, only saved by a late handball penalty after a Joe Hart special show.
The question is will the owners remain patient if he keeps getting domestic succes but fails big time in Europe.
Dont forget the difference between CL group and knock-out stages is 8-10 m pounds. Even is you finish in the first round of the knock-out ties. If you go 1-2 rounds it is 10-15 m more income. + more home games, more ticket income etc., being a real factor in CL provides greater chances for better sponsor deals.
So will the owners be OK with domestic success=winning the league but nothing in the CL?
And will there be any domestic success? It is not like Mancini's years at Inter where he won the league 3 ties in a row but their biggest rival was AS Roma.
Not really the level of Chelsea's or United's.
(Juventus was in Serie B, like Napoli, Milan was concentrating on CL).
I'd settle for 5 more premier titles and have Mancini for his full contract of five years then see where we are, the premier for me is what gives me the buzz and the ammo to whined up rags

That is the question. Winning the league and failing in Europe is OK or not?
Could be lot worse.
But winning the league is very hard many times in a row. In this league especially.
Chelsea, City, MU it can go anywhere...
But these group stage fails are horrible.
Someone wrote Wenger never won it, but how many times he failed in the group stage. He is at Arsenal since 1996 maybe he lead Arsenal in the CL more than 10 seasons dont think they failed in the group stages more than once.
Chelsea didnt fail in the group stage since Abra. They failed to win it unitl last year but they played CL final, CL semi finals, quarter finals earlier. That is a different kind of fail...
United failed in the group stage two times in 15 years.

I guess some people just don't get it. Most of the people in here are just happy that we're in the CL at all, and ecstatic that we won the league.
Guess what?
WE ALL ARE.
Problem is: We've had nearly a billion pounds dumped into the club, and winning league games to piss off the rags isn't what that money was for. If the owners get the impression that the CL is a bridge to far for Mancini, then he's going to be updating his CV here soon.
