Is Pep the greatest?

And he’d be wrong.

Depends on your definition of greatness. Cruyff didn't win a huge number of trophies as a coach, but he is responsible for modern day Ajax and Barcelona as we know them, he changed the game dramatically and now it's people who followed him and who he taught that dominate world football.

There's a reason so many people like Pep worship him, it's because they know how directly he influenced them and how that's lead to the success they have. No Cruyff = No Pep.

In American sports they having something called a "coaching tree" where they do like a family tree of coaches who worked under or were influenced by great coaches, and it's one of the ways they measure who is the best.

If we did the same in football, Cruyff's "coaching tree" would be the biggest in football by a mile.

Obviously in terms of winning trophies, Pep's miles ahead, his only real rival is Ferguson, and he's about half way to his tally in only 10 seasons.
