Is Rooney the new Alan Smith?

Berbatov gets another hattrick and Rooney scores none again.

And yet people still describe Rooney as a striker!

There was once a young lad who hated United and promised the fans of his club that he would never sign for Man U'

He was a striker of huge promise, but one who had issues with his public image and on occasion his attitude let him down.

That wasnt helped when he did sign for United, against the public promises he had made.

He started well enough and people at United were happy with their expensive young purchase.

But strikers need goals and all of a sudden the young lad found himself scoring fewer than his teammates. He started dropping deeper in search of goals until he was no longer a fantastic prospect as a striker but more an average midfield player.

His career stalled and then went into decline. He moved away from United and very little was heard of him after that.

Was Smith any good as a penalty taker?

(Yeah I know there should also be an injury in there as well so perhaps Rooney will suffer a leg break?)

Rooneys dodgey ankle seems as much a hinderance as smiths leg break. There is a clear weakness there now. And as is known, ligament damage can be more detrimental that a break.

this is f**king stupid...clearly not a single one of you saw us play Birmingham when Rooney completely ran the show and set up 3 goals. He is getting the best out of other players and yeah maybe he doesn't score as many but clearly the system is working as Berbatov (apparantly a waste of money and lazy c**t to you lot) if the top goalscorer in the prem. If every season Rooney has scored a couple of goals and we are unbeaten and top of the league then I am sure we can cope.

How many goals has Djzeko scored???

Just a tad premature to bring Dzeko into the argument mate.

And I have never said he Rooney isnt a good player but even by your description he is now a midfielder.

It's the most obvious thing to me - The ScouseGit will run into form in the away derby! It's written in the stars. The Rag hacks have already penned their column inches. They are drooling over the prospect of the last months being washed away in a breathtaking return to outfield goal-scoring brilliance.

Hope I've put the mockers on him, now!

I assume you're referring to Dzeko?

None - but then how may games has he played for us? How many games has he played in English football?

A pretty desperate and pointless comparison, I'm sure you'll agree.

yeah i agree silly to compare but after the comments i have seen on here i am coming to your level.

ok if Rooney is more a midfield type player than a striker...is that a problem? oohhhh nnnoooo rooney is playing like a midfielder!!!!

put it this way if Rooney adapts his game to play in attacking mid/supporting striker role he would be one of best in the world

Last season he played further forward mostly as a loan striker, and nobody else got a look in. Berbaflop was just that, a spare part. The rags won nowt (apart from the mickey mouse cup)

Recently the granny shagger has dropped further back to play a more creative role and bring others into the game. This is mostly because Scholes has been injured and the other midfield talent at the swamp is non existant, but it doesn't surprise me when I hear down the pub that Berbaflop has scored his 3rd hatrick and shrek has set him up for every goal. Or that Nani is now looking half decent. We have the same problem with Tevez, when he's not playing everybody suddenly looks better, but I don't think that he has the ability to play in midfield, he wants to score all the time, which overshadows his team-mates.

The rags and the blues can still win games without these players in the team, so maybe we need to take them off their perches and support the team ethic first and foremost.
