Is something wrong?

Yes of course there is. Has nobody noticed that all of our strikers have stopped scoring putting huge pressure on our midfield?

Tin hat time :

What the hell is wrong with Kompany .

I know he has a knock but he looks a shadow of his former self at the moment.
He seems to be that concerned with his own form he has forgot to lead the rest of the team.
No excuse Vinnie watching players rise above you unchallenged.
The shit MDM has been given this year yet he has been carrying his partner for over a month now.

This squad is failing to come to terms with the task in hand and 2012 looks like a one off.

Pellegrini's attacking principles have gone out of the window since Aguero's second set back at Spurs in late January .

Why ?

Too few players have played too many big games all season.
Some like Navas and Negredo are not used to this much football with no break and form has dipped.
Injuries have played a part. We've had far more than Pool and Chelsea but less than Arsenal,Spurs and United who would have been closer to us with better luck.

Some squad members are not fit for purpose despite lofty reputations and we need to do some pruning during the summer..
Next season some of our top players will be knackered from world cup duty so strengthening the squad with players who can contribute quickly is a must. We should be looking to give the players who get into the latter stages of the WC a gentle start to next season or we'll pay dearly for it in the end.

We must manage our season better with one of the Cups given over to squad players or players who need an outing and we mustn't moan too much if we come a cropper. It has to be done.

Big big season for Pelle. Got to get it right this time or seriously doubt he will get another chance. I'm supportive of him but it's a tough business and there's always someone else who seems to provide the answers to your weaknesses.

I just think they've hit the wall physically and mentally this season. Sadly the WC wont help improve the situation as most will be playing in it.
I agree, even the games we have won comfortably recently we were nowhere near our best and I include the game against the rags in that,
we just looked drained.

which either says the squad players aren't good enough or Pellegrini doesn't use them properly.

I think the squad players haven't given enough quality when played to be able to rely on. Our strongest starting 11 is head and shoulders above anything in the PL, but once you start taking key players out we arent a patch on that side. They are ok coming on as sub in games we start our stringest side, but look at pretty much every single game we have played a weakened side, we normally always have had to rely on bringing key players on to rescue the game.

I think there is something seriously missing or wrong in our squad. I've thought it since half way thought the title winning season and thought it might have left us when Tévez, Balotelli and Adam Johnson left us. I thought it might have left us when Mancini left us. But it wasn't them. There's still something wrong. I've not worked out what it is yet, I can't quite out my finger on it.

I don't know if there's not enough desperation to win. I don't know if it's because we've assembled a squad with certain types of players missing. I've thought a few times, apart from Silva Kun and Fernandinho a lot of the rest of our players weren't really on other big club's radars or weren't wanted by their previous clubs; is there something behind that?

But then sometimes, something tells me it's none of those things.

But there is something missing. Definitely. Look at champion clubs over the years and what they've had. Bayern München, Barcelona, The Rags, Real Madrid, AC Milan...all of those clubs had something we don't.

Saying that, we're not at any of those clubs' levels from when they were at their best yet. Maybe that's what it is - we're just overrated!

Valencia won two league titles and got to two CL finals between 2000-2004. I don't think we're even at that level yet.
I look at what Deportivo La Caruña did around that same period and I reckon we're at about that level. They won La Liga in 2000 and finished runners-up in 2001 and 02, they won the Copa del Rey in 2002, they won the Supa Copa in 2000 and 2002. Even they got to the CL semis in 2004! That's about the level we currently are, for me.

Maybe when we're looking at it and wondering why we aren't doing as well as we think we should be, it's because we just aren't as good as we think we are!

Can't help but to think that something was seriously wrong today. I had exactly the same feeling as when we played the FA Cup Final last year which ultimately led to Mancini's departure.

Could there be bad things going on behind the scenes? FFPR, the homegrown quota problem, etc? Has been a lot of negativity the recent week and I'm worried that there might be something to it.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it but there were many things that felt strange today. Milner's performance and attitude towards the refs were maybe the most remarkable.

Just a team physically and mentally tired IMHO, the rag tops have tried to convince the whole world we have the best squad of all time and should be winning every game 5 nil, best squad is Chelsea, but in reality we only have the best first 11, (when all fully fit!) too many blues believe all they read in the press instead of taking an objective look at the squad, a few tweaks in the summer and things will be much better for next season.
FFPR doesn't even come into it, the accountants arnt on the pitch.
And the home grown quota will be sorted for next season as per the tweaks in the summer...
