Is the age for consensual sex (16) too high?

Does anyone know why the age for consensual sex is 16?

Do any specific biological changes occur at that age that don't at 15?

Should a 49 year old man be imprisoned for having consensual sex with a 15 year old boy?

1. When I was 15 i thought yes its too high.

2. Now my daughter is 15 i think it should be 21.

3. No not imprisonment, handed to his parents trussed up with a sign round your neck saying "but he said i could"

really last one was just wrong , even in jest

Do the government give a shit if you're over 12, though? Teenage mums aren't exactly locked in a prison with the key thrown away. Humans have urges, but the 16 things is just a guideline people are encouraged lightly to stick to. I waited until I was 16, and I'm glad I did. I guess that under 16 you're more or less unable to make any kind of decision like that and thing about the consequences. Could it be promoting monogamy?

Any 15 year old is going to have urges. All I'm asking is that if we truly live in a free society, instead of repressing these urges (possibly leading to depression), shouldn't we encourage the children to express them sexually?

IMO opinion it doesn't matter if its 15, 16 or 21 what matters is education and the more the better. I'm 39 and when I was 15 I'd had no sex education whatsoever from anybody apart from what I'd heard in the school playground and what I'd found out myself.

It will probably be lowered by a couple of years in years to come.
The way that society has changed - in particular the proliferation of technology and the widespread use of it - has meant that adults are more immature than they used to be and youths/teens are more mature than previous generations.
