The problem isnt about teenagers experimenting with their peers but that of peadophiles grooming kids for their depraved sexual urges.
At least 16, but I would prefer it to be 18, old enough to have children legally but not old enough to vote?

Between 15 and 49 there is a huge difference. especially in maturity. Even though it's perfectly legal for a 49yo to bed a 16 yo I'd be a bit freaked out by that. I'm 28 and would look at 16 as too young.
In your teenage years you are hormonal and pretty horny too it's only natural. But there are people who will exploit that for their own gains. Hell I've seen posts by pedos who use the fact that pre pubescent kids touch themselves as justification for wanting sex.

Which is all why I said I'd put 18 as a guideline. Even in Spain where the girl only has to be 13 to give consent there are add ons to the law that means the boy has to be of a similar age. Because a grown man could take advantage of her hormonal state.
And the difference between 16 and 14/15 could go further down to 13. My answer is that if they are both around that age it isn't bad. And I agree that we won't be banging them in jails but I think that the consent laws are there to stop adults abusing positions of trust to exploit young people sexually not to actually stop teenagers having sex.

Because frankly we all know we can't stop the kids from doing it.
As another poster said it should be more about proper sex education. Not just johnnys on cucumbers, ( that just raises expectations too high.)

Yes I do realise AFRICA is not in EUROPE. The original post just said that the lowest age of consent was the vatican. I stated that the Vatican had the lowest in Europe but there was actually an African country where it was lower.

Wind up or not you could still have a reasonable debate about the subject. It's actually quite interesting to see the varying countries attitudes to it all. Even America where it varies from 14 to 18 state by state
