16 is an age where a child will/should have received a rudimentary education (general education) and this reason alone is why the marker was flagged... else the nation would be breeding gypo's.

Quite probably the only time I have ever been accused of being a daily mail reader.
I would say that a 14 year old, normally wouldnt have the life skills and life experience to know what they are consenting too and the reason why there is an age of consent is to stop 52 year old child molestors from molesting children (and as the electoral commission feel that 18 is the age when you are old enough to decide who you wish to govern this country, the government feel that 18 is the age when you can decide that you want to defend this country, then 18 should be the age when you can decide to give your consent for sexual intercourse.
