ביום שישי, 19.7.24, בסביבות השעה 18:00, הבחין ג'עפר א-נג'אר, תושב שיעב אל-בטם שבדרום הר חברון, במתנחל שרעה את צאנו באדמות של המשפחות ג'בארין ונג'אר הצמודות לבתי הכפר. א-נג'אר התקשר פעמיים למשטרה ונמסר לו שחיילים יגיעו למקום. בינתיים יצא אחד מבעלי האדמות, ניזאר ג'בארין, אל המתנחל וביקש אותו לעזוב את המקום. המתנחל סירב, ואז ניסה ג'בארין לגרש את הצאן. למקום הגיעו ארבעה מתנחלים נוספים, שלושה מהם רעולי פנים וחמושים באלות, ושני חיילים, שאחד מהם מוכר לתושבים כמתנחל ידידיה טליה, והתקדמו אל בתי התושבים. הם החלו להסתובב בין הבתים ולהיכנס לדירי הצאן בתואנה שנגנבה מהם כבשה. חלק מהמתנחלים תקפו בני משפחה שישבו בכניסה לביתם והכו גבר ואישה בראשיהם באלות, בעוד ידידיה טליה יורה באוויר ומכוון את נשקו לעבר התושבים ובכך מאפשר לתוקפים לעזוב. החיילים עצרו את ניזאר ג'בארין ולקחו אותו לתחנת המשטרה בקרית ארבע שם הוחזק עד השעה 23:00, אז שוחרר בלא כלום. שני הפצועים טופלו בבית החולים ביטא. איש מהמתנחלים לא נעצר

I can’t imagine how the victims family feels hearing this garbage.

I find it very telling as far as US foreign policy goes that Ukraine, despite a nothing but peaceful recent history and some remarkable restraint in the face of a much larger and well armed aggressor, is having its self defence hamstrung whilst Israel, a country with a history of apartheid, ethnic cleansing and illegal occupation, is given a free pass to act as it wants.

The only reasonable and acceptable argument to explain this that ever withstood even a modicum of scrutiny was the Russian escalation one, but their red lines proved to be drawn in chalk on a rainy day a long time ago.

I disagree with this analysis about Ukraine. Western intervention has stopped Ukraine being overwhelmed but avoided escalation with Russia, whilst simultaneously depleting Russian military capability.

It’s actually been really effective.

Think they need to step it up at some point this calendar year, though.

The idea of avoiding escalation with Russia has always been misguided. They have lost wars before and not escalated, there has never been a reason to be concerned that they would escalate in the face of more force than they've lost to previously.
