Istanbul CL Final chaos | City Matters statement (p 133)

There's no disputing that the metro would have been a better option but they clearly didn't want us mixing. By all accounts the Inter fans were great but I'm sure the stick of getting in trouble with the Turkish authorities was a pretty large stick. Add 20 thousand blues onto that mode of transport and see if the feelings are as cordial.

Maybe it could have worked after the game but I've also heard of people being turned away and what time did the metro actually close?

To the game they should have had alternating dedicated trains for each club but with the 3 changes or whatever it was they obviously wanted to reduce the headache of having to police it.
I got the metro with no problems at all. 90% of Inter fans had already gone. The losing team was always going first and by default provided the segregation.

I think the point that the metro only worked for a minority of City fans with no trouble because not all City fans were using it is probably true, though.

That's why I was saying it could work after the game.

The difficulty would have been before when not just Inter fans were using it but Joe Public during the daytime. Throw another 20k of our fans on top and it becomes less straightforward.

That is certainly a valid point, however there was no reason not to run the metro for say another hour to shift maybe half the City fans who instead spent hours waiting for buses. Would have eased congestion on the buses too.

Blows my mind still that a stadium with only one public transport link on one side of the stadium that far away from the centre can be given cat A stadium listing tbqh. All those rules and clauses about TV cameras, hosting abilities, media credentials and not a single one about transport links. Shows where the priorities are I suppose. Even the corrupt IOC put in stuff about infrastructure.

It was certainly more crowded on the metro on the way there than on the way back but even so you would think they could have increased the frequency to move more people quicker.
It’s not the only time that the stadium has been used. Does this shambles happen every time there is a match there with 70,000 people in attendance?

I agree with you that's why I suggested dedicated trains for each side.

No, it doesn't happen with other 70K stadiums but they aren't in the middle of nowhere and practically the whole capacity would just be using that mode of transport. It's like comparing apples and oranges.

Edit. Sorry, just seen you'd said the use of the same stadium. Kerem stated previously it's barely ever used and I imagine when it is it's nowhere near capacity. I think he said one of the local sides used it when their new stadium was getting built and ended up moving back into the old one in the meantime. Haha.

I was asking about when 70k turn up at that specific stadium not about others. Surely it can’t be this shambolic every single time?

I believe there are very few events there that have capacity attendances.
