I tend to agree, but Chelsea dropped a lot of silly points last season too.

Van Persie may well be motivated, but I'm sceptical of his ability to stay fit for a full season.

We finished on 86 points and still gave up six to Chelsea.

Coupled with a settled team, it would be a helluva swing and downturn in form for Chelsea to be supposedly superior to us next season.

It is vital we hit the ground running with players fatigued after the World Cup.

Which is why City are being very cute recruiting players who can start straight away and get us wins.

My point is that you say we can easily improve on the points dropped against Sunderland, Villa, Cardiff and Liverpool. Chelsea's losses came against Everton, Newcastle, Stoke, Villa, Palace and Sunderland so I'd argue that they're just as, if not more, likely to pick up extra points on last season's total than City.

But we can also improve upon six they can't, regardless of what they do elsewhere :)

Do you think we will go with the homegrown option for back up for Joe or try and get someone like Caballero ?

Think Caballero is hanging on for us and a goalkeeper will be the last bit of business.

There would have been nothing to stop us signing a homegrown keeper already.

Certainly someone like Westwood, who is a free agent.

Makes sense but just wondering how that impacts on our other business in terms of HG players in the squad - if as suggested we lose a few of our current homegrown players - are you confident we can cover all the bases ?

Supremely confident we will tick all our requirements.

Glad to hear it and in view of some of the stuff on here it is very reassuring that you are so confident. I get the impression we are now far more professional in the way we are not just going about our business but also identifying and recruiting the players that we need to fulfil our requirements.

Does anybody remember when we first won the league and Mancini was kicking off because we needed to sign big name players, like De Rossi and Van Persie? How come we aren't doing the same this year? I understand that we've been giving a limit but I just find it odd how the approach as been different.

Chelsea are going round paying the buy-out clauses for everyone.

Hardly great business.

Correct.

There's nothing clever about shit or bust.

Essentially, this is Chelsea's season coming up.

They will get another £20m for Lukaku, but so many players without knowledge of the league.

Didn't work too badly for us with Fernandinho, Navas, Negredo, Jovetic and Demi......with a total of 0 PL games combined before making us champions.

Which just need see-off that gob shite Moanrinho .... If he fails this season he'll be getting his P45 and that would give me so much pleasure because he's such an abhorrent little tw*t!!

We all knew what the team needed and who it appeared we wanted. So far, with Sagna (done) and Fernando seems to be pretty much done, a backup keeper is not exactly a pressing need (and maybe waiting to see how much spare cash we have out of the £49M net), and the World Cup is in full swing, so not exactly sweating it, to be honest!

I think everyone is just concerned about who will be the four center halves. For me, I'm not arsed about getting a new big money center half, especially if someone tries to extort us. I'd be happy with Ginny and MDM to start the season with Nasty and Rekik as the back ups getting games every now and then. Need to bring them both along for 2015-16 season when MDM will have buggered off. Maybe then we will see who is coming through across the globe.

Not interested in a late 20s established player, because they are expensive and have no long term future. Need to start blooding EARLY 20s players, so that by the time they are 25-26 they are established, high quality, technically proficient and able to withstand the rigor of the Prem and the CL.

I reckon once we go to Malaga and sort out Willy I expect all three signings of Fernando Willy and Benatia to be done and dusted. All we need then is flighchecker (for Fernando and Benatia) baggage handlers, City Kev at the airport and someone on hospital watch.

I'm much, much happier at CB with Demichellis in the squad. I've been banging the experience drum for about as long as I can remember, and he just personified it during the second half of last season. No longer should the whole back line break down into an unorganised mess the moment Kompany pulls up with another groin problem.

That said, his best years are still firmly behind him. We need to find the MDM with those extra few yards in his legs. Then we'd be laughing.
