Everyone was raving about that Chamakh and Gervinho and we know how they've ended up.

These players are a cut above Gervinho and Chamakh though (never rated either of them personaly). It seems strange that we need to strngthen the squad for a serious tilt at the CL possibly with a deep lying playmaker and a winger and here they are, available at reasonable prices.

Carzorla I agree with, but Sahin has just been a reserve for RM and you can't say for sure he will make an impact in the Prem.

As for Giroud, he had a good season, but once again he has it all to prove in the Prem.

What I will say with confidence is that Podolski is a spent force and showed his ambition by ducking out at Bayern to go back to Cologne, where he achieved zilch!
