It is therefore likely that as time goes on Mancini will increase the pressure publicly to get new players in. As tactics go its a bit of a no brainer.

We'll have to agree to disagree mate. I don't see it as a 'tactic' more the gaffer venting his spleen in public and giving Marwood shit because he can't give the owners shit without losing his job.

You are correct. Mancini doesn't give a shit.

Not a particularly edifying trait if that is the case.

Mancini has the winning mentality that this club has been craving. He's driven and he's ruthless. In this respect he has a lot in common with other high profile successful managers. He wants our club to push on, and he'll stop at nothing to achieve it. This is what I want from the manager. A managerial Uncle Tom he aint.

I have no doubt he does woman and moan behind the scenes. Bitching and moaning to the media helps him increase the pressure on the club and Marwood until something gives. Mourinho for example does the same.

You seem to have ignored my point. Would you not acknowledge that our owners aren't going to be too concerned with gaffer's public proclamations of dissatisfaction if he is indeed saying the same things privately. We're going round in ever decreasing circles here. I see no good reason for him to be publicly being so snide about Brian Marwood to the point where he said in the press conference he's not happy with the management set up at the club. Dare I say it, it is just a touch ungrateful with the amount of money which has been spent at the manager's behest since he came on board.

Mancini isn't interested in letting the mistakes of the past cloud the future whereas the club is concerned about the mistakes of the past and rectifying them so they have differing perspectives and agenda.

That's a nice way of saying he doesn't give a shit about how much a player costs, or how much the players already at the club are costing, he just wants what he wants. It's pretty clear the owners have little intention of giving him what he wants this summer. Time will tell who was correct.

I find that really hard to reason, given that it is only a matter of weeks since the manager extended his contract for five years. I'm sure as part of the negotiations, there will have been discussions regarding the squad and assurances given that the squad would be improved (Mancini talked very shortly after about bringing 1,2,3, 4 or 5 players, some of whom would be youngsters). I'm sure if these assurances weren't given then Bobby might have thought a little longer and harder before signing on the dotted line. Vinnie's new contract endorsed some of this thinking. You'll also recall David talking about the club 'negotiating with big players', which to me enhanced it even further.

Following on from that, Bobby must have been told that he would see some movement in 'two weeks' because he was very specific about this at a press conference - two weeks have passed and nothing.

So I ask who is pulling the wool over who's eyes here? To me it can only be Marwood, unless people think that the Sheik and Khaldooon blatantly lied to Bobby during contract negotiations (which I don't believe for one moment, especially given what Khaldoon said at season end, and substantiated by the Sheik himself a couple of weeks later when he talked of one or two signings, and of maintaining progress).

My personal feeling is that Marwood is out of his depth - he has no standing in the football world as far as I can see, and lacks clarity in both his thinking and actions. We are a big threat now and as a result, the other big 'more experienced' clubs are not going to make it easy for us - we therefore require someone who has the gravitas and standing to be regarded as an equal when he picks up the phone to a fellow director or walks into the boardroom of a club we are wanting to buy from. I would suggest that Marwood is not that man.

Having said all that I think we will capture a few players before the end of August, but I think this will be in spite of Marwood rather than because of him (step forward Khaldoon ...... please, pretty please).

Really? Thought you are only cup-tied if it´s the same competition
18.07 As a rule, a player may not play in a UEFA club competition (i.e. UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League, but not UEFA Super Cup) for more than one club in the course of the same season. Exceptionally, however, a player who has been fielded in the first, second or third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League is entitled to play in the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League for another club as from the group stage, provided that his former club did not qualify for the group stage of either the UEFA Champions League or the UEFA Europa League;
if Liverpool get through he cannot play for us in the CL until February.
rules has been changed. that one you quoted are the old ones
OK Mancio - what are the new rules then and would they make a difference?

Totally agree. Mancini has every right to be pissed off. Marwood and the powers that be have made a royal fuck up this summer. What a chance to really push on and leave the rest eating our dust. I'm sure Roberto would agree. Fuck financial rules,it's a load of elitist bollocks.

I doubt Marwood - or anyone else for that matter - predicted we would still have Hughes' debris still left on our books as of 10th August.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but in hindsight we should have got shot of the dead wood a lot sooner, at any price. Reminds me of people who can't bear to sell something at a very low price so they leave it to rot until years later they throw it out. If we had to let Bridge and co go on a free, so be it. Or even pay for them to leave. We should have got shot of all of them by now. At least we'd have known where we stand and the decks would have been clear to bring in whatever new players we could afford.

Yep you're first hit is the smallest. Just like shares watching the price going lower and lower. Should have taken the 8mill offered by real when we had the chance. Anyone who thought his wages wouldn't be a problem needs to think again
