It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

Why? What does the price have to do with it. Only the ability matters. If we need to replace Ake the replacement has to be as good.

don't worry about it..

We still bought Laporte in that January so you’re really only advocating we can go 6 months without replacing Aké.

We also can’t pretend that Liverpool were the same side they are now in 2017/18 - they only got Van Dijk in the January and Alisson in the next summer and that’s when their defence stopped being a joke.

We are up against mich tougher opposition than we were in August 2017.

We saw how relying on 3 CBs can fuck us when Kompany left, and Liverpool saw it the season after when they went into the season with 3 CBs and scraped 4th.

I’d be very surprised if the club made the same mistake again, more likely they’ll get someone like Pau Torres with his €50m buyout if Aké leaves.

I am advocating to replace Ake, just to be clear. But I don't think you need to replace him with a 40m+ player is all

Clubs will know City got cash so they’ll bump up the prices. And what top level cb would accept a 4th choice role before a World Cup?

Mbete isn’t ready.

It could be a good opportunity for the club to target a market we don’t usually get to go for, the hidden gem or 18/19 year old prospect who’s about to burst onto the scene instead of going after them 18 months later when they cost 5x as much.

The scouting department knows who all these players that clubs like Leicester get, we just can’t buy them because we usually need instant performers.

I’m fairly indifferent about Sterling and Jesus leaving. I like both, I think they bring a lot to the side (despite Sterling’s dogshit 24 months of form), and I’d happily see them stay. But sentimentality aside I’m not too shaken up by their departures.

Ake on the other hand, I’d be gutted. He’s a good centre half, a reliable makeshift left back, seemingly a great lad and he came off the back end of last season glowing and ready to fight for his XI spot.

I think the World Cup is just an issue that can’t be ignored for players whose spot in the national XI isn’t guaranteed. Not least when you’re subject to Pep Roulette each week.

I hope he stays.
