He wouldn't be replacing Jesus and Sterling though. For me Haaland and Alvarez are. I know people will say thay are Aguero's and Torres' replacement but Aguero and Torres hardly hard starring roles in the 20/21 season, Aguero then obviously left and again Torres left halfway through last season having been injured from around October. So for me the new lads are not replacing them, but Sterling and Jesus instead.
As for Palmer I'm not expecting him to be a world beater off the bat and start 20-25 games, but with Haaland likely to be the main man that only leaves two spots on the right and left with tye likes of Foden, Grealish, alvarez, mahrez and even Bernardo capable of playing there. So if Palmer only played 10 league games and a few cup games he will have done well.
I hear you, and I get it. But I politely disagree.
Both when missing were through injury, not 'design'. Wouldn't see the club planning to go into the season with bodies missing just because they were previously missing through injury.
Torres I can to an extent accept, but that was his role, a longer term player that would break through for his country and find his place in the team. Which I see Alvarez as. Sure, now with Jesus gone he gets more of a chance to step in quicker, but thats a bit of a punt expectation. I have however said a few times I can see Jesus' contribution being absorbed and shared by the team, Alvarez, Palmer and others.
Aguero was missed, whether through injury or not being replaced last year. It was obvious. We have finally replaced him. Khaldoon said so, Pep said so, yet we have people here refusing to see Haaland as filling Aguero's striker role, but instead replacing a winger.
Stretching Haaland's contribution to replacing Sterling's as well is just putting us under the same kind of pressure we had to deal with when Aguero was absent. Particularly given Alvarez is new and already stretching to Gabi and Torres' place.
Whichever way you look at it, we would have lost 4 players in Aguero Torres Gabi and Raz. And replaced them with 2 in Haaland and Alvarez. Palmer is already here. Sure the two of them can maybe cover for 3. But not for 4 for me, not Raheem's numbers too. Hence I fully expect another attacking player to arrive if he is sold. Given there will be a foreign slot squad space too.
