He does, but they could do with high-earners off the books. FdJ being one of their most sellable assets along with Barca currently having a lot of talented young spaniards coming through in midfield makes the decision easier

Hes tried to make him the new Busquets. De Jong doesn’t suit that role he’s more of Gundogan/KDB player. he can play as a 6 but he’s better being more involved higher up the pitch where his vision and passing can be used the best. Barca have continuously tried to make him the Busquets heir which he isn’t. His best season at Barca was under Koeman where he was used more in an attacking creative way. In that season De Jong and Messi were Barcas best players.
