I don't see what signing a new contract would do except see he earns more money before he tries to get a move next summer for the 3rd year in a row.

Allows us to insert a release clause too. Maybe City have had a word and said let us add a clause in a new contract,you can still move but it ensures we get a fair price and in the meantIme you get a bumper pay rise.Last year he wanted out with 3 years left on his deal.

Yeah, we''l get more money, I just sense people think if he signs a new deal he's staying until he's 35 and I doubt it changes anything except the numbers really.

What's the difference though? He has a pseudo release clause right now...we'll sell him if Barcelona meet the asking price.Allows us to insert a release clause too. If he had a formal release clause, nothing would be different. Barcelona would still thibk they can get him for 50m or whatever they have told themselves and would play silly. He is already respectful of a valuation and is not pushing it, as he would be for a release clause. The only person it makes a difference to is him, he gets to earn more for a year.
