It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

Why?

No need to do this, we should take seriously every competition if we want to still maintain to be an ambitious club status.

The moment we start half assed one of the competition is the moment of our downfall.
Why? Because we have the smallest senior squad in the PL and this is going to be a particularly awkward season because of the WC. For a start, we have weeks of wall-to-wall CL group stage games. It will be a season like no other.

I don't know, because I don't run the club, but I am just speculating they may be thinking that way.

If it turns out we have enough players to go for all four without any issues, great. I'll be delighted.

I will be pissed if our club started half assing one of the competition, yeah i get it we will not putting our best player in each of every match we participated off on weekly basis. But that doesn't mean we are not going trying hard to do our best in this minor competition even we are using second string and academy player to do it.

The reason of why we have such world class team is because we pushed and fight for every competition each season, we treating all of it as the same respect because we are very ambitious club that wants win every title on daily basis and will not lower our standards just because we have small senior squad.

An average normal fan will never get this but our club from it's owner down to the player is very ambitious and have a high standard for themselves. Of course they will try hard to win everything every season no matter the circumstances, that's why i like from our club it's to never compromise our standards regarding this.

Plagued by injuries already. Ake and Laporte out, Philips out and possibly Grealish. Imo we need another centre half at least as lets not forget Stones is also a bit injury prone.
Go into the season with 5 CB? Our CB situation is perfect as it is. Injuries are the reason why we have 4 and not 3. Ake/Laporte will be back soon as well. Can't be buying players for an injury for a couple of weeks.
Also I thought that Grealish is fit for the weekend?

OK at least another Left back then, or do you also think we have lots of cover there aswel.

Five CBs is excessive but only because you expect at least one senior DM / fullback to be able to cover if four isn't enough... and I reckon you'd probably want a half decent youngster kicking around as well.

Right now, Rodri is barely in the picture as cover because Philips is injured, and Walker is the only RB until Gomez proves he is ready, which remains an if. I don't doubt his technique, but he's clearly being asked to step up physically.

That's with one injury in midfield.

I see four potential open slots in this squad.

A winger with pace. Like: Leao.
A senior LB who won't get bullied and can play. Like: Lodi
A central player, quite possible another ball carrier as KDB is so far up and we are playing much more of the pitch at once. Like: De Jong
The fourth is a suitable RB, with some of Kyle's physical attributes, but younger or more technical.

Now, if we go on to sell Bernie, my clear opinion is we would need two of the first three to make it safe.

If we keep him, the priorities are less clear to me, but I think a utility RB stopgap / long-term Kyle replacement would solve several issues - even if some are only potential issues, it's already too close for comfort.

We should stop here, and remember we sold our experienced LB. In addition, we sold Lavia (DM/CB) to a prem club, Porro and Kabore (both RB) to sides in today's CL draw. Those are the players who - in addition to Cucurella - would make this situation safe. I'm not saying we were wrong to let them leave. I am saying tho, those decisions contribute to why we feel under pressure right now. And it's the same with incomings, Philips injury is recurrant, and Gomez is being asked to step up.

My feeling is clear, this one is on the board. Haaland changes so many things for this club. I don't think tho, that excuses them from the obligation to provide the manager with a squad of sufficient depth.

That's why this one in, one out was a baffling transfer strategy this summer, especially when you see teams signing players for fun without selling . Still leaves us very short on numbers
