It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

People who say its not our money to spend are right, but at the same time do we really need to spend 50m on a Kalvin Philips when you can find players for half the price that is arguably better? Frank Kessie - can knick him before he joins barca on a free? Fabian Ruiz - granted he plays for Napoli but has one year left but imo is better than Philips. Renato Sanches (one year left) - yes he is a box-to-box but is adequate enough to do a job for a much cheaper price.
Didn't Khaldoon say in his end of season interview "if Pep asks for a specific player for a specific position,we then try and get that player.
If we can't get that player,we won't just buy any player who plays that position....Pep has said he would rather make do with what he already has"

He said summat along them words......which tells me....Pep has asked specifically for Phillips,IMO.

'Home Grown' means that a player must have been on the books of a club affiliated with the Football Association (England's governing body) for at least three years before they turn 21 – it does not mean that they have to be English
the quote was “we have 6 English players” not registered or affiliated, I was pointing* out he’s not “English” he’s Dutch.

There is no minimum quota of 8 HG players.

The rule is a maximum of 17 foreign players.

Also this is the PL rule, we have to build our squad via the UEFA rules for Champions League purposes so it's max 17 foreign players, 4 Club trained players and 4 English players.

We currently have 13 foreign players (not including Mendy), 1 club trained player - Foden - and 6 English players - Sterling, Walker, Stones, Carson, Ake & Grealish.

So we actually have to list 2 English players as foreign players currently because we've filled up our English player pot.

14 foreign, assuming Alvarez is part of the team.

If Jesus leaves we can sign any left back and any DM, regardless of homegrown status? That's interesting, I didn't know that.

If anyone leaves (other than foden), the same applies.

We have room for one more, regardless of status. Thereafter, it is one in one out. Regardless of status.

If we are looking at Phillips, it is because of his ability, not because he is English. Same with any player of any nationality, assuming they qualify for a work permit. Their league experience maybe helps, but their status doesn't matter.
