It's Quiet 18 - Wanna ring the bell?

I think it does. Otherwise, we would have offered Kalvin to West Ham and probably end up getting Rice. Obviously, if Pep tells him he is not part of the plans, he would look for a move away, but I think it's unlikely consdering his good form during the Euros and the fact we usually give players a 2nd season to impress. He isn't a left back, but I reckon he could do well for us at LW.
His “good form” wasn’t during the Euros, it was during the U21 Euros. Pep spent an entire season with him, he isn’t making up his mind based on something that happened after in a completely different level of competitiveness. He wasn’t signed to be any significant part of the squad, he was signed as a body after failing to sign Cucurella. His season with us was absolutely atrocious, completely out of his league. The idea he or anyone would be allowed to stay “to impress” is ludicrous, he either stays to be significant part of the squad or not. He should take a hard look inside as to why different managers keep trying him in different positions.

Players like him and Phillips probably can’t believe their luck. Won everything with little effort. Do you think they would WANT to go? Or would say that in interviews? “Yes I believe I am not good enough and therefore will ask to leave.” How lovely their agents would find those statements. They say what they need to say. Gomez does have one photo wearing a City shirt as a kid which he can then claim to be a real fan because of that one photo. Believing that or their interviews require a certain level of naïveté

Gnabry would be a good stop gap but with Bayern looking to offload Mane and perhaps even Sane they wouldn't sell. And with the injuries we may even end having to sign a replacement more sooner.

I disagree. I don't have any reason to believe he isn't a City fan. He posted about that a few times, and I don't see why we shouldn't believe him. He could have picked some Spanish team to push for a move there in the future. Other players could have lied about it too, but they didn't. Why would Gomez, and why is Gomez considered a liar anyway? I also think that his form at the U21 Euros counts for something. He made the team of the tournament, was a joint top scorer, was up there for the assists as well, and had a good chance of becoming the player of the tournament. I believe we give people a chance to impress, which is why we have a few younger players on the team playing a part every season. Gomez showed glimpses of his potential in the FA Cup semi-final where many thought he was MOTM, United at home, Seville away. I just don't think he is a left-back, but someone regarded as one of the best talents in the world a few years ago or selected 2nd best after Phil Foden at the U-17 World Cup cannot be atrocious. Vincent Kompany disagrees with that (player of the season for Anderlecht and wanted by Burnley), and I think Pep does too since he has been giving him minutes consistently throughout the season, sometimes ahead of the likes of Palmer or even Lewis. I don't know if he will make it here long-term, but I think he deserves a chance to play where he has been playing his whole life. The LB experiment is surely over now.

Forgot Gomez, and haven’t seen him play for Spain, but maybe.

The simple fact that you 'forgot' Gomez sums up why he's not the answer to anything. If he left the club tomorrow, most of us wouldn't even notice, and those of us who did wouldn't bat an eyelid.

He's just like a temporary filling. Good enough for emergency cover, but nowhere near the quality required for the long term. Certainly wouldn't be a first choice player in any elite team.

Gomez playing on the wing is a serious possibility. It’s his natural position and we could see a few more departures than originally planned. Even if we give him another year to try and see how he fits in.

With Kev going into the season injured I think we see more of Foden centrally, it’s a good reason to start him there and natural progression. Grealish and Alvarez wide, Bernado and Mahrez to leave. Sounds like Bobb may be involved and can see Palmer being loaned out. I think we go into next season with

Grealish/Alvarez/Bobb/Gomez/New signing (And Foden if needed as well)

But expect us to sign someone high level if that’s the case.

With due respect, I don’t have the energy to discuss Sergio Gomez. The guy will not be staying, that is so fuc… obvious. I have met people who were fooled by players’ performances at World Cup but at Euros U21 is a bit much. But then you mention his performance in the FA Cup semifinal claiming many considered him MOTM when it was Mahrez who was widely regarded that for his hat-trick. That semifinal was against a second division side missing top players. Vinny can have him if he wants; a team just promoted may be closer to his level. City isn’t a Telethon, the standard required is high. I have no intention of writing about Sergio Gomez until the point of wishing him good luck at the next club in a month. See you then

This, and we are sorted. As you said, I would still buy someone high level because I wouldn't rely on the likes of Bobb or Gomez in case of some injuries, etc. They will probably play occasionally, but that's it. Julian will rotate with Haaland as well, so we should probably buy someone top-tier ready to play a lot at RW.
