It's Quiet 18 - Wanna ring the bell?

I don't have any concerns about Kovacic "replacing" Gundogan. He's quite similar to the player Gundogan was when we bought him. We didn't sign Gundogan as an attacking midfielder who could score 10-15goals a season. He got 3 or 4 and then upped it to 5 or 6 until we had to play him further forwards. If Kovacic is allowed to get into more attacking areas then he can easily chip in with 7-8 goals. Gundo went on a bit of a run last season and ended up with 11 in all competitions.

What Kovacic does ensure, is that we don't get completely carved open centrally, which was happening before Stones slotted in to plug the gap. He's got younger and quicker legs than Gundogan had.

Not really

Palmer prob going on loan so not really in the squad
Bobb is the youth player than might get 200 mins over the season
Not given up on Phillips unlike most

I assume you have a list of names that will improve us in your eyes or you just one of these that like shiney new things that aren't really needed

I'm talking real upgrades, players that will come in as first 11, not players that might be better than what we have and might take 12 months to settle if they even do

Take the Georgian lad at Napoli, not even going to try and spell it lol. Next big thing apparently, over £100 mil, the fact he is coming from Italy is a warning flag for me, not many players travel well from there to Premier league. Add in we don't deal with Napoli and he isn't available

The Market is poor for the level we are at, would a like a new cm yes, can I see one that fits AND we can get them.. No

Would I like a rm or winger, yes, wanted a bit of pace in the team for a while, can I see one I'm really confident with... No

We are a month away, no doubt the club are looking at players and it wouldn't be a shock if they did land someone but I'm not panicking like some just yet
If you've ever taken the time to read any of my posts you would never be asking me if I'm "one of these" that likes shiny new things. I won't lie. The moment I read that I couldn't take anything else you had to say into account. If you believe we're OK as is in terms of our objectives fair play to you. I don't think we have the requisite depth at the moment. That's not a radical position, by the way. If, for example, Grealish and KDB were to each go down for a month during a period with CL games where do we go? You'd have Foden, Haaland, Bernardo, Kovacic, and Alvarez. No depth and very limited flexibility in terms of how Pep could line them up being that Alvarez is not a proven wide man.

That said, I've stated all along there's no reason to be worried as I fully expect the club to make moves to MAINTAIN, the level, not upgrade, in the face of losing Gundo and Mahrez. Losing two important players of their level and experience and backfilling them with Palmer, McAtee, and Bobb would not qualify as maintaining our level. As far as Kovacic, IMO he's the quality depth player we actually should have had in place prior to this season as we were extremely fortunate that Bernardo, Gundo, Rodri, and KDB (mostly) enjoyed injury free seasons.

The reality is that we'll never have to worry about the concerns of those panicking because City will make the moves needed to succeed so those of you saying we are good enough now, as is, won't ever thankfully have to be pulled up on it. So basically the Flappers won't need to worry and the Happy Clappers can go blissfully on their way ignorant to the reality that many of them have no idea what they're talking about.

In summary. Do I support and believe in the club to do what's necessary? 100%. Do I think we're good enough for a run at another historic season as we are now? Absolutely not. Am I worried? Not even a little bit. I hope that helps...
