It's Quiet 18 - Wanna ring the bell?

None of our current AMC's can do what Kev can really do when he is fully fit. Bruno G would be a decent stop gap but he too isn't Kev at his absolute peak.
I get that. Kev will be replaced (I hope he stays, though, but still, reduced minutes at his age) by Phil, though, and Bruno would be great to take the weight off Rodri. I imagine our starting midfield trio would be Rodri, Bruno, and Phil. Bernardo, Kova, Nunes, Rico would rotate in and out as well (obviously Bernardo always starts, but I can see him as our RW starter). Perfect balance there, IMO.

I think Eze is better than Nunes.

Last summer, it was between Eze and Nunes, and we went for Nunes. I hope we learned our lesson by now and will not sign a 68m quid squad player (although, as I said, I fully support Nunes since he is our player now).

To compete with Real, we need players of Bruno, Wirtz, or Musiala's caliber. Settling for anything less will only lead to a steep decline. Just ask a Mu fan about their fall from grace since 2011. We cannot afford to sign mediocre players if we aim to be the best.

Up and coming talent is great as well. For example, Savio is a great piece of business. Same with Doku last summer. Eze is 26 years old, though, and not an upgrade on anything else we have. The likes of Savio or Doku can end up truly world-class one day, so that's a great investment, IMO. Players in their mid to late twenties must be good enough to start for us (like Kyle, Manu, Gundo, Mahrez). Otherwise, we are better off signing up and coming top talent like we did in the past (Rodri, Ruben, Julian, Stones, Bernardo, KDB, Gvardiol, Doku, Savio, Ederson, promoting Phil from the academy). The list goes on.

Let's not fix what's not broken.

Does signing 2 world class players qualify as going the "galactico route"?
We don’t need 2 we need one CM, plus Savio. If somebody else leaves we’ll buy the right player may be a well known name might not, but its about fitting in the squad and team not about this years big thing .Some of our best players were just that Gundogan, Ake, Akanji, Rodri

I’m not concerned about Madrid
Trust me it won’t be all rosey - it never is
Massive egos and playing time for big players will be an issue for them
Give it a season and big players will be unhappy
They aren’t even that good of a footballing side - they just have players who step up in moments
They were chasing shadows against us at the Etihad - if we had our shooting boots on and didn’t switch at the back, we’d have comfortably beaten them.

Agreed. That's why we are targeting Bruno G/Neves.

I will just add that Gundo was a CL finalist and a starter for Germany when we signed him. Rodri was a starter for a top European club, Atletico. Akanji was a regular for Dortmund and Switzerland. These are the sort of players we should be targeting. Guys like Bruno G or Xavi S fit that profile. Not Eze.
