Why would we have paid them £100m, or even £1? Was the whole point of him activating it thatbhe would go for free. Which they blocked with the threat of a legal challenge over the timing.

Anyway, irrelevant, their hole was a lot bigger than 100m.

There were rumours at the time (whether believable or not(!)) that we were willing to give a 'nominal' fee to push it through which was well below his RC of £700m.

Hole a lot bigger than £100m, sure, but still a hefty bit to put towards fixing!

Are we waiting to be 100% sure that Pep is extending hence the reluctance to spend?
Not replacing Alvarez would suggest that is the case for me
 
Interested to see if we dip into the market if/when Alvarez leaves. Especially given what Pep said when he hinted that the only way we’d go for a new signing is if somebody left.
