It's Quiet 18 - Wanna ring the bell?

We're saving it for something. Owners of businesses aren't stupid and will eventually want a substantial return on their investment, Boehly excluded. We're seeing that now in the revenues we're making. Gone are the days when we'll just spend 250m and not worry about recouping any money, ffp is another major factor in that. The first window in an absolute age where we will probably end up being the lowest spenders says it all
I would say it indicates just how damned awesome our squad and youth setup is, with no reason to spend big this window. We're never going to do a Chelsea and the likes of the rags quality across the board means they have to spend to even make the CL for next season.

something still feels strange in this window. the level of "savings" we did, even Gundo was a complete off chance transfer as even he confirmed back in July when we met him in the US friendly he had no idea yet he will have to leave Barca.

Ederson, KDB, Walker all staying probably have put the lid back on some serious transfer investment this summer as we had lots of rumours of them previously.

we trimmed the squad, Gomez gone, Alvarez gone, Phillips gone, Cancelo to go, quite a lot of EDS players sold, another dozen out on loan, while the transfer spend was basically Savio only, with Gundo as free agent and Mubama guy for peanuts for the EDS side.
if someone says this pre transfer window this will be our total activity I would have laughed it off or simply just didnt believe it.

up to Pep and Txiki of course, they prefer smaller squad, but with more games and some other sides are improving and investing a lot more, our smaller squad will be stretched and tested a lot.

a striker for the bench imo is still a gap, laughing at the days we had Dzeko, Kun, Tevez, Balo in same squad. now some even arguing having a 2nd striker behind Haaland is needed or not...

Don’t get me wrong gundo for ne is the best summer signing in the entire window but to lose Julian alveraz a 15-20 goal a season and not bring a cover striker is a very risky move and now with cancelo going who isn’t really part of us but nunes aswell is another player going from a already small squad.

There tends to be a panic every summer about losing a player and their goals but new players come in and tactical tweaks ensure we don't "lose goals" from the team. Others step up.

I remember the same concerns when Gundo went and was "replaced" by Kovacic. People talked about us being 10 goals down. But Phil went from 15 goals to 27 goals last season.

Others can step up.

I still feel like we'll bring another player in, but if there's no value in the market the club will bide their time. When you think of the deals we've done recently to bring in top quality players, some of the fees being branded about and paid are absurd and it's quite right for the club not to bother.

There's no point bringing in a player just to tick a box.

Plenty of our squad are now getting into their twilight years and it's better to invest in top quality young players than panic buy.

Opens the Txiki thread...

'Some of his signings are rubbish, recently that's been Mahrez, Rodri, Mendy all for huge money.'

'Rodri doesn’t suit us, only plays well when he’s not pressed and the game slows down to his pace. Any time the game is fast or especially when he’s pressed, he’s either useless or at best average.'

The thread is a goldmine!
That Rodri comment is hilarious

Top chance creator and assists last season in La Liga. Not bad for an MLS standard player.
You must be a bit slow on the uptake, that has been said a good few times, but just so we understand, i do not rate La Liga, the drop off in standard is huge from the usual top 3, and Barca are so rubbish they needed the help of their FA to get in the top 4. Now if you want to talk about assist what is his in the PL, and how does it compare to the others on the list?

We still could bring in 1/2 players in the last couple of days? Didn't we do that when we bought Gomes and Akanji which came out the blue?
