It's Quiet - a new dawn

Have they? Says who? One shitty Sun rumour 3 months ago and people run with it to pretend it's some sort of validation.

No a plethora of reports if you take notice. Otamendi been good last few months of the season yep he has been poor but he has improved or are you going to hold it against him while he is still at city. Certain players make mistakes without being question some players make mistakes get the reputation of being poor its always been the case with some fans.

Otamendi worth as much as VVD? Pack it in!

He can pass, but he's not a ball playing defender in the mold of Stones or Laporte. He can have good games, but he's not a leader. He can win headers, but he's struggled against the more physical centre forwards we've faced and he very rarely scores.

Basically he's good but he's not great. VVD is arguably better at all of these things and over the same two seasons Otamendi has been around is widely perceived to be a better player, thus he is worth far more money. We already ready have one hit-and-miss centre back in Johnny Rocks, we simply can't afford to have another and challenge for major honours across the board.

Plus Otamendi is already 29 years old and has another 3 years on his contract, it's likely Pep already doesn't trust him, frankly if we can offload him to a team that will suit his style more it would be best for both parties.

And as for pulling Madrid's pants down... They're not signing him to be the first name on a team sheet they're signing him to replace Pepe. £25 million and upwards would be superb business.

Be pretty disappointed with swapping VVD for Otamendi but then again I am not Pep.

Otamendi has been thrown in with some proper crap whilst he has been here, it is no disservice to him that he looks good with Kompany. Everyone does.

Get Ota and Kompany a competent pair of full backs and we will be 50% towards a better defensive record straight away.

He's seen as a complete joke, an awful defender who is always about to have a calamity and a dreadful transfer. You might not think that's fair, or accurate, but that's what people think. It's what pundits think, it's what the general public thinks and it's what Journalists say.

I would say that's in the gutter compared to the La Liga TOTY defender we signed who was pursued by several other clubs.

You must have non-city supporting friends. Go ask them what they think of Otamendi as a signing.

You're spot on, that is the view of the media and most neutrals. Otamendi is seen as a disaster waiting to happen and rightly or wrongly reputational damage takes a long time to be overcome. Look at De Gea, he was a laughing stock when he first signed for the rags and it took a long time for people to acknowledge how good he actually was once his performances improved consistently.

I thought Otamendi did well last season and it seemed like him and Kompany were starting to form a good partnership towards the end of the season. I do agree that in Kompany's absence he does not seem like a leader though and Stones and Otamendi have never looked a solid partnership. I hope he stays, he's a good player and is starting to prove it. He does need to cut out the histrionics though.

Madrid apparently want Otamendi, City's best defender this season.
City want Southampton's second best defender this year.

That one is valued twice as high as the other doesn't make sense. Especially when you consider the buying and selling clubs.
We bought one of the most sought after centre backs in Spain for £34 million, he's played nearly every game in two seasons and is now wanted by Madrid, our own fans are somehow valuing him at half of a lad who's had a good 7-10 months at Southampton and 12 caps for an appaulling national side.

As I've said, I'm not Otamendi's biggest fan. But Madrid seem to be and I don't get how anyone can rate VVD far higher than Otamendi.

Out of interest, who was Southampton best defender this year? I have as many mates who support/watch them as you have city fans (or local club if not in manc ;) ) ......and every one says VVD is their best player period not just defender.

Can you produce any of these "plethora"? None from any journalists related to the club, no sniff from the ITKs and none from any reliable Spanish journos either.

Is it me or do we fans rate everyone we are interested in as world class and say oh he is worth it just pay (inset any number you like here) and our own players the opposite. Never worth that we overpaid will be lucky to get (insert much lower fee here) ?

VVD is no better than Otamendi.

Keep digging. Your still spouting your opinion and your opinion only. That's what "people & the general public" think - LMAO.
