It's Quiet - a new dawn

Considering how often Portuguese clubs rip off foreign clubs on transfers, Carvalho being available for a reasonable fee is a red flag for me.

What's wrong with Carvalho? I know it's the done thing to talk down potential signings, plenty thought Sane was average and wouldn't make an impact at City before he signed, but Carvalho is a solid upgrade on what we have and Sporting have said they'd let him go for £20million. That's a bargain in today's market.

Meanwhile, we will be in on likely 7 more players for the first team including a keeper (Moraes), minimum three defenders, a striker and more midfielders for squad depth. Not every one of those signings was going to be north of £40 million.

Spot on. Carvalho is a very tidy player and certainly a solid upgrade like you say. Think a lot of people are dismissing him because we signed Fernando, who also happened to be a defensive midfielder we signed from the Portuguese league. He had a bad first season with his groin injury and the writing's been on the wall for him since. Strange to compare the two really because they're the only similarities they share.

Carvalho has so much more to his game and for that price, it's a steal. I don't get where all the grief comes from.

Not true at all, plenty of people lamented the "poor" signings last summer and ranked Sane as not good enough to start.

So he's a more technically gifted, younger Fernando off the bench or as squad cover for £20 million. What's the problem with this?

If Pep wants him, it's not because he feels he has no alternative, he just fits his strategy.

We didn't exactly have any winger competition in the summer before we signed Sané, did we? Anyone is an upgrade on Navas. A lot of bullshit this.

I feel like you didn't read my comment, I'd even argue Carvalho is an upgrade on Fernandinho. So yes he would be a massive upgrade on Fernando. But Carvalho himself won't settle with being on the bench, I'm sure he wants to be an undisputed starter at soon to be 25 years of age. Like I said, he is not enough of an upgrade for me.

Like I said, he is not enough of an upgrade for me.

And like I said, whether he's enough of an upgrade to you or me is irrelevant. It's whether he's enough of an upgrade to Pep that counts.

I don't know if I even believe we are in on him. I've always thought the media's tie of Pep's brother being his agent was tenuous in the extreme.

If it's true though, I'd welcome it and the fact he would be extremely cheap in today's market is the icing on the cake.

He doesn't fit Peps system perfectly. Carvalho is a garbage midfielder with no pace or passing ability. The thought that we want him is terrifying as it takes us closer to Bournemouth than it does to Barcelona.

Hmmm, who should we, the fans, trust to identify players who best suit the needs of the squad and the style of football Guardiola wants, @93Aguero20, or Pep Guardiola? It's a tricky one...

On the one hand it's Guardiola, literally the one man who truly knows what he wants and can put that into action, and on the other it's some guy on the internet who watched some portuguese games and didn't like the player.

I see why we would get him, like toure, he is big strong and has great passing range but is quite slow. He has good experience and is fairly young so if he is cheap then go for it. But I worry that this is a bad sign for players like aleix and future stars like matt smith.

Carvalho is a 24 year old who's been average in the Portuguese league for a while. He was ousted by Danilo in the Portugal side this summer which in itself shows how poor he is.

He's slow, has a poor passing range and has been poor for the past few years. Saying "oh but Pep wants him" and then slagging off fellow City fans does nothing but make you look like an arse.

In my opinion, whining about a player who, if we have agreed to sign in March, is obviously someone Guardiola has been looking at for a long time and is very certain of, makes you look like an arse.

Why can people on here just say, "Well I personally didn't think too much of him, but Guardiola clearly knows what he's doing and if he wants him then Ok, he's probably going to at least be an upgrade on Fernando or Delph".

Why does it have to be "This is a fucking disaster, we're going to be more like Bournemouth than Barcelona, oh why is everything so awful!?".

Smith is only 16, Carvalho would be 30 by the time Smith is 21.

If for arguments sake Carvalho replaed Yaya, you've also got Fernandinho, Fernando, Delph who would leave long before then as well. It shouldn't worry him too much.

Carvalho is a bad signing because he's a bad player. He's not very good, as I've said he's slow and a very weak passer.

The fact no other half decent side wants him suggests his quality is also poor. Instead of buying average players we should be signing higher calibre players who'll take us forwards. Carvalho is not even as good as Fernando.

No, you think he's a bad player.

Clearly, Guardiola doesn't, and there's no reason for to not trust Guardiola's ability to find the players he wants.
