His age is an issue for me, those legs have lots of miles in them, and our tactics rely on the high press. His wages could also be an issue if the rest of the team find out he’s being paid a lot more than them, not good for team bonding. Who misses out of the starting line up if he comes? Messi is a Barcelona icon and should finish his career there imo.
Yeah, he’d struggle to replace Mahrez on the right.....

Even if Messi couldn't run I'd spend the money just to have a player who can bloody finish. He could stand still in the box and still get 20 goals a season with Kev feeding him.
Sorry quoted by mistake.

Sorry, Rakitic. Wrong blonde bloke in the highlights I just watched to remind myself of the chances he created.

You can think Messi wasn't good, but that's a ridiculous opinion. Any forward who creates 3 1v1 opportunities for his teammates to score had a good game. Any team in the world should be able to defend a 4-0 lead.

Messi makes as many defensive actions - pressing, tackling, interceptions - as Silva was making a few years ago. The idea Barcelona are carrying a passenger is another weird fiction people are trying to speak into existence.

The reality is that Suarez can't run at all, Dembele doesn't defend, Busquets can't run, Vidal's legs have gone, Rakitic's legs have gone. They're an old side full of players who can't press, it's not 1 player causing their issues.

You pay whatever it takes, because long term you make money on it.

Messi still works reasonably hard in the final 3rd out of possession, look at the way he closed KK down for the pen as an example, he just doesn't do tracking back and I'm sure that's something pep would plan for if he signed on.

He's still a killer in and around the box, the positives far outweigh the negatives, Mahrez would lose out most if Messi was signed and he's hardly a defensive grafter.

Yep and why the is a lot of none City fans on here coming up with all the excuses in the book why it’s a bad idea even playing the trump card of oh Foden will benched see all a mile if they scared shit we might just pull it off something these history clubs in primer could only dream of.
That's bollocks, some of us just see things differently, doesn't mean we're right or wrong, it's just an opinion.

We are at our very best when we're pressing with pace, intensity and aggression. When we do that everything else falls into place, we're defensively stronger, we create more chances, we're sharper and more clinical, no one can live with us. We are at our very worst when we have 2 or more players in the starting XI who cannot press with pace, intensity and aggression. When we do that everything falls apart, defensively the high line gets exposed, our attacks are slow and laboured, we resort to crosses from anywhere lumped into the box because teams can get all 11 men back behind the ball and we run out of ideas other than "give it to Kev".

The best teams around currently all have very similar high intensity pressing styles, we've fallen behind this season because we have lost that ability to "fight like a small team" out of possession.

I love Messi and he's the most talented player in world football, no one comes remotely close and I include Silva, De Bruyne and Aguero but he definitely falls into the category of players who cannot press with pace, intensity and aggression. Against the very best you can't carry a single player, even Messi, in my opinion. That all said, if it comes off, I cannot wait to see the little fucker score 40/50 a season, it'll certainly be enjoyable to watch.

I don’t know why we are concluding that Messi can’t press when he clearly has in the past. We’d probably play him as a CF anyway and it’s not like Sergio is this massive defend from the front man on fire. We’d have to accommodate him a bit but we’d be fine
