If this IS yet to play out further, which i dont think nor hope is the case, one thing it has done is just calm everyone and everything down, and take this explosive edge off it that had built up to an almost unbearable level. It buys a bit of space and time from the ongoing media circus to actually let things settle and for meaningful reflection

the issue I have with his level of unhappiness is that he has the power to fix it and will not do it. He doesn't need our help to get him out of the situation, he is in control but will not press the button.

I can see Messi sat at a table with a contract in front of him, desperate to leave Barca until he picks up the pen and he just won't \ can't sign it, he cannot make that final step. We need to just accept he cannot leave and never will

the financial side of this deal worked if he comes on a free, if there is a fee in the region of what is being banded around then I start to get nervous of the financials, PB says it can be done, PR didn't think it is viable. Terms saying we have a creative way of doing it don't inspire confidence regardless of who the club have employed as if by some miracle he did sign all hell would break loose in our direction

after all that has gone on does anyone think he would commit to moving on a free in Jan, do people think he will just say yes I'm coming? All that will happen if this ever drags on until Jan is we will have a month of him signing this deal as excuse after excuse comes out at their end and the transfer window shuts with him still a Barca player.

disclaimer: If he does sign I'll be over the bluemoon heading to the shop to get my shirt with Messi 10 on the back. That would make even the 3rd kit look good
At least with the release of the Rag kit, the 3rd kit is no longer the worst kit in the league

I agree that it's his choice to stay, but I believe his reason for that, is his concern re a court case.

If they'd let him go, he'd go.

But will he uproot his skriking kids in a year from now ? I'm not convinced he will.

Agree a lot can happen in a year, our time was now to get him. Oh well, move on to other targets or go with what we have. We have already added to an already great squad. If you add a dominant CB to the team we’d still challenge IMO.

Surely his interview has made his stay at Barca shorter.

He picks at Project, Dressing room, President

Surely position becomes untenable

They can easily solve that next year with a new President, Xavi, & sell Coutinho, then rebuild the whole team with the Coutinho money, which will never run out.

Khaldoon to Bartomeu explaining what happens if they keep Messi until next Summer ...

View attachment 2013
Correct, of course, but Bartomeu and the Barca board won’t be feeling like the losers in all of this. There’s an understanding with these clauses when the contract is signed that the player will either walk away for nothing or sign again at the end of the contract. Bartomeu has got the best of both worlds. He’s taken advantage of the situation to get Messi (albeit an unhappy Messi) for another year, without having to commit to another contract. Alternatively, if he does a deal with us, he gets a transfer fee he otherwise wouldn’t have got.

Scumbag yes, but not the crazy fool he’s being painted as by some.

The transfer fee anyone would pay in January is much less than they would pay now.

The only way this turns out well for Barca is if Messi signs an extension.

That's very possible, particularly if there is a change of the board.

But if he leaves in January or next summer yesterday was a disaster for the club.

Anyone attempting to throw this back at tolmie or billyshears, think back, both kept a degree of caution throughout, that things change, and that while messi's mind seemed made up a change of heart might overrule that. There is literally no obligation to share any inkling of information or even emotion from they may get occasional access to from people linked with the club, other than the common excitement, or calming, heck even disappointment with other blues. Some of the sarcasm and selective nitpicking is somewhat misplaced.

I don’t see how. Messi would have left for free by now or they would have had to commit to a longer contract. As it is, they either have the services of the player for another season, a transfer fee before this window closes, or a smaller one in January if they choose. Snakes, but in control.

He wasn't going to leave for free without getting things ratified by the courts/FIFA.

I'm sure we would have paid a significant fee if Barca were prepared to negotiate.

If his wife and kids loved him and respected all he’s done for them, they’d support his wish to move for a few years.
We’ve been hoodwinked. Pep and the Spafia have been totally done over here and it’s distracted us from signing those quality players Chelsea have bought up.
For me this ends the final point of the Spafia being here, there is no Barcelona left that we’d want here now. Move them on, change direction. Right now it also feels like Pep can go. Does Messi respect Pep so much that he calls him personally and begs to join, but all along it’s just a game? Fuck you Lionel.
This season is going to be very flat. we’re weaker with Dave and Leroy leaving & we haven’t bought anyone to inspire the squad to push on to more.

Utter nonsense. we have strengthened our defence with Ake and have also bought a great pacey midfielder in Torres. Foden will get much more playing time and if you had been following things at all closely you will know he is already more than able to add massively to our midfield and is well on the path to being a superstar.

It also escapes you that sadly Dave was past his best last season and Sane didnt play at all.

So imo we are already stronger and if we add in another centre half will be a real contender to get our title back.
