Let Messi lawyers work Barca board a bit, and Barca fans need to create bit more chaos too and wouldnt mind Messi vs Koeman fight in first training either. :)
This all could push the price down.

Dont go and be generous to them, they would not be if it would be our player they are after.

What if Messi walked from Barcelona, would you want City to sign him on a free and run the risk of having to pay £620m if the Spanish courts find in Barcelona's favour? That seems too risky.

No one in the media has discussed the prospect of Messi buying his contract out. That would seem to be a way out if it can be done?

Messi must feel very alienated. It looks like the initial tone from Barca's management is to take a hard line but it's press talk. Who really knows. Logically you'd think they'd compromise in narrow self interest but that is beyond our control and a matter of speculation

£100m plus Garcia and Angelino seems like a reasonable compromise, and enough for both sides to save face, given his age, contract situation and seeming desire to leave.
That would be more than reasonable considering the circumstances. Shame Gundogan is not of interest to them.

I agree, they’re showing zero loyalty to Messi here so far. it’s quite shocking really. If he wants to go be reasonable. Just as we were with Sané for example.

When Neymar left, PSG paid the 220 mill plus, but it was very hush hush and kept away from Barca. Neymar negotiated and PSG paid the release. The president said afterwards he was surprised and upset about the way the transfer went about, that he knew nothing about it until it was too late. He said publicly, if PSG had spoken to them and Neymar wanted to leave, they would’ve let him go and it would’ve cost PSG far less than the money they paid, he said it in a televised interview, he was practically mocking PSG for overpaying... ok... well how about now then?

No comparison to this potential signing and what shockwaves it would create. :)

£150m? Na. It would have to be £100m and they gave us £50m back to make that work on an FFP basis. We should only offer them his last year's wages, pretty much buy him out and leave them with the choice of that or stumping up the cash for the season. If they want more cash then they should have to buy a player back so we don't take an FFP hit.
Say he’s given a three year deal, then £33.3m amortisation per year isn’t an issue. Silva, Bravo & Sane’s wages off the books should help with his salary, and with FFP rules being relaxed it’d presumably be do-able.

Anyway what stops the Sheikh to sign a deal with Messi to do a 5 minute tv commercial for UAE for 50m, totally unrelated to City.

And then he signs for City for 10m per year salary.

he still gets the same total in the end, we are not in trouble for ffp, Messi gets his money, everyone is happy.

Why we need to put all his salary into our costs?:)

It might be what happens but imo, they shouldn't be asking that, bearing in mind his contract & his service.

I hope he joins our group in some capacity afterwards, like Vieira did when Arsenal left him to rot.

technically no, it’d be an image rights sponsorship type transaction. But the Abu Dhabi tourist board would have to pay him for clarity. It’s doable though.

Comparing that and no income to a net profit of £17m if they bought back, doesn't make business sense unless we get desperate. Barca still make £90m net in that scenario plus £50m in wage bill, any more is greedy.
