Agree about the mediocre players but that was before the covid issue.

Messi is still the best but he's not superhuman, he is 33.

Realistically how long could he remain the best, in the premier league? 2 seasons tops?

If so, 100m plus players is far too great a sum, especially with wages on top and with 12 months remaining on his contract (not forgetting the can go free at the end of the season clause)

But we won’t be paying £100m as we’d firstly pay in € but I’m being pedantic.. We won’t pay anything as increased sponsorship will pay for any deal, it’s also a total spread over the team of a deal, so 3 years at £100m for example is only £33.3m per year as far as FFP are concerned. Name a player of his calibre you’d get for £33.3m? You can’t and that’s why it’s a good deal. Don’t be fooled in to the €1m a week wages hype too. He’ll be on a basic wage that’s made up to that amount with image rights, sponsorship endorsements etc and as such doesn’t come out of the clubs pocket directly. The numbers are only scary when looked at blindly.

He wouldn't though would he ?

And if Messi was walking out to join Real Madrid, you would have some sympathy for Barca's position.
No, he wouldn't.

The relationship between Messi and Barça has obviously soured. I don‘t know if he’s been awkward behind the scenes or if it’s down to a twattish hierarchy, politicking, hurt at the thought of him rejoining Pep, or merely being opportunistic about a legal clause. Or some combination.

Two seasons of Messi is enough if it means winning the PL. We would be mad not to take a deal for 100-150m plus a player or two. Anyone who doubts Messi clearly has anagenda against him or just never seen him play.

Covid has barely made a difference to the
fees being currently paid.

We simply cannot pass on the opportunity to have the best player probably in the entire history of football, who is still the best currently.
"Covid has barely made a difference to the fees being currently paid."

You serious? Chelsea are splashing the cash only due to their transfer ban ending.

The market is very quiet, there is very little cash around for transfers.

Cash rich clubs have the pick of any player this summer, hence why we must address all our weakness in our squad NOW

Just tried to spend some time catching up via Skysportnews

Fucking insufferable - all fucking redscouse obsessed - utter cunts

I am going to think of a way of doing without them
Both their relegation springs to mind.

Messi is still a great player. Age will catch up though.
However, his bar starts so much higher, that any decline still classes him as an elite player.

My take on this deal is it's much more than the player though.

We haven't really made a statement purchase in a long while. Many on here have complained why we haven't broken records to bring in £100+ players.
The truth is we haven't needed too. The champions league exits haven't really been down to the team.

The one thing we have always said that if the right player ever come along, we would go all out to get them.
Messi is that player.
He would fix so many things.

He would elevate the club to a new status. You cannot underestimate the ongoing effects long after he leaves.
Papers are already changing their perspectives in their headlines. Last week it was "rich" "wealthy", suddenly we are "giants".
Sponsors follow the clicks. Attracting new fans will have long lasting global effects.

I know it's not the City way, but sometimes you really do need a poster boy to change perceptions. (oh and he can play a bit as well!)
