I'm obviously missing something. Why do we have to broker a deal with Barca?

Are you suggesting we cut Barcelona out?

That means:

a) Messi buys his contract out, or
b) City sign Messi and then ride out a legal challenge regarding the release clause.

I haven't read the last few pages but as I thought these options were regarded as unlikely and that the likelier path was to hope that Bartomeu would compromise on realising that Messi was intent on leaving
