Not sure where all this Phelan love in has come from as he was crap. He was fast and that was about it. He was way over priced and came absolutely no where near justifying the 2.5 million we paid. He was the 90's version of Wan-Bissaka. I have never seen a footballer have less control over the football. A real headless chicken.

Every time their fans say "Well, he can't defend, but he gets loads of assists" and we go "it's fine, Pep will teach him how to defend" and then Pep just... doesn't do that.

And we end up with a player who still can't defend but is also not getting any goals or assists either.

It was a different game then, not so much the overlapping full back. His speed enabled him to protect the flank and get back when a player had breached it. I liked him, I remember before we brought him he kept David White quiet and I will never forget replacing him with David Brightwell against Kanchelskis!
