David Brightwell didn't play in that game.
Was it his brother who played the Garcia role in that one ?

Totally disagree with you on that one. I think you're describing the player we bought not what he is now.No
Great full back but hasnt got the discipline, awareness, concentration or reading of the game to make a centre half -not a leader either.

I actually think he'd make a better DM than anyone we've got there now apart from a fully switched on Fernandinho.I feel as if it might be too late in his career, for his brain to adapt. Also, for some reason, he doesn't seem to dominate headers like you would expect.
It would take him about 2 days training to be better than the current level though, I imagine.
If Pep goes back 3 maybe ?
How would he excel? He could not pass, he had absolutely no intelligence, he could not control a football. He ran about like a headless chicken. We some how inexplicably made him the most expensive full back there was, yet his performances no where near justified the fee we paid. There is a reason he did not ever play for a top team and that is because he was no where near good enough. He was flavour of the month for a Wimbledon team that just went about kicking lumps out of everyone.
I remember him playing against Nayim and it was embarrassing. It was like a dog chasing a tennis ball.
Now he was fast, but the best thing about him was his song. I fail to see what traits he had which would make him successful in our current team.

Very down to earth player, needed replacing....We play with a Divot though (or a double Divot)
Not sure where all this Phelan love in has come from as he was crap. He was fast and that was about it. He was way over priced and came absolutely no where near justifying the 2.5 million we paid. He was the 90's version of Wan-Bissaka. I have never seen a footballer have less control over the football. A real headless chicken.

Divot Origi? We play with a Divot though (or a double Divot)
He loses concentration all the time - especially at the back post - he is not a centre half by a long chalk
I think he loses concentration because he's played FB all his career and finds it easy most of the time. I think he'd relish in a new role like CB or more likely DM. He would love to be Pep's latest project. He loses concentration all the time - especially at the back post - he is not a centre half by a long chalk
deary me....... although entitled to your opinion that is one of the craziest player analysis I’ve read on here!

Just my opinion and I might be giving him too much credit
Why? He was the ultimate speedboat without a driver. He was definitely the most expensive full back in British history when we bought him. He may have been the most expensive full back in work football. He was no where near that level. He was not even as good as Andy Hill, who played on the opposite flank. Phelan was rapid and that was it. He was light years behind players like Stuart Pearce and Dennis Irwin.
The consensus at the time was that Phelan was a poor signing and no where near the money we paid. Its funny how people look back. He was the weak link in that defence.
Lost track
Are we linked with anyone in tonight's game who we can look forward to tripping over their own feet & giving away a pen etc ?
Alaba and as complete wild card Boateng
Unfortunately one of the biggest myths in City history. Phelan actually played left back in that game Kanchelskis scored a hat trick. It was a different game then, not so much the overlapping full back. His speed enabled him to protect the flank and get back when a player had breached it. I liked him, I remember before we brought him he kept David White quiet and I will never forget replacing him with David Brightwell against Kanchelskis!
