They would have to be beyond stupid to demand that though. Ronaldo went for 100 million euros at the same age, with more than one year left on his contract.
The difference there is Real treated Ronaldo with the respect he’d earned.
Barca don’t seem to care that they are breaking a promise made to their greatest ever player.

Because at the minute Barca are saying €700m or it doesn’t happen, just don’t see it getting done for €100m if Barca still believe he his under contract.
It’s just down to who’s right and who’s wrong and that’s where the stalemate seems to be.

But the alternative is they pay him 170 mil for poisoning the dressing room.

If it went to court, what value do you think they would put, on a 33 year old in the last year of his contract ?

All the evidence is that Messi is a fee agent now! do you think Messi would of sent that fax if they hadn’t looked at his contract with a fine tooth comb! Also the video of the chairman actually saying that he can go for nowt!

The stalemate is Barca not willing to negotiate.

If they carry on refusing they will receive either fuck all or what FIFA tell them they can have.

At this moment Messi says he’s right and Barca say they are, so not sure what evidence there is?
Hence the stalemate.
What the chairman says in a video and what is written into a contract are 2 different things.

Messi has been a hero to Barca fans. Whilst I'm sure they all want him to stay, I suspect most would understand his reasons for leaving, regardless of anything the club do. The only thing he could probably do to cement his legend is to take the president down before he goes. The next week could be interesting...

I may be wrong(?) but I have it in my head that European football associations require a copy of all player / club contracts so that they can establish their validity / ensure 3rd Party ownership isn't an issue etc. as part of the registration process to play in their leagues.
Can anyone actually clued up on this topic confirm one way or the other please?
I'm not sure if the domestic FA's hold copies of all player contracts but FIFA oversee all player transfer and contractual regulations. I'm surprised neither party seems to have sought FIFA's view seeing as it was FIFA who added the covid-19 clauses to their regulations.

Just spitballing, but I can still see us paying a very minimal amount.

£30m plus Garcia. £48m directly to Messi to buy out his final year.

For the purposes of our books, a £30m transfer.

Sorry for my ignorance - why would we have to pay them anything if we’re also paying Messi to buy out his contract?

Surely Barca wouldn’t accept that kind of deal regardless

Hopefully the video is released today, can't wait too see it. Time for Messi to play a card, so far it's Barca controlling the entire narrative.

The answer is in what Messi has done so you think he would sent that fax if there was any doubt about the contract! Look at his career form character and his personality while at Barcelona, he ain’t no fool.

Barca aren't going to pay him £98m in wages and image rights for another 12 months when they know they can't even ask for that as a transfer fee with ten months left on his deal.

Even more so, when the player refuses to play or just fulfills his training obligations. Barca don't have a leg to stand on.

No idea, but everything I’ve read about that knobhead in charge at Barca says he’s a stubborn fucker and will dig his heels in even if he’s in wrong, so I don’t expect him to make it easy.
All boils down to who’s right and who’s wrong, time will tell.

In response to a poster saying we will still have to part with £100m. Was just a smoke and mirrors way of paying the £100m.
