Well that's your assessment but consider that Messi can talk to who he likes on January 1st and agree a free transfer move at the end of the season. Furthermore, what kind of season are Barcelona going to have if they opt for 12 months of rancour with their talisman.

We can only place ourselves in their shoes, examine the evidence that we know of, and the popular conclusion is a compromise and transfer.

The concern for me is that this is not a rational negotiation from Barcelona's perspective, it's very emotional for them because of the long term relationship with Messi, the internal politics and the first team performance last season.
