Either they got very lucky with injuries these last two seasons or they factor in how injury prone a player has been prior to signing. Their bench is not a strength but they get away with it because their first team players all seem to play for most of the season without lengthy injury interruptions.
Mad isn't it. To keep that tempo up for a third season would be absurd. Going back to my point though, we cannot rely on them slipping. We need to make the league about us and not them.

Yes, it was just a cheeky comparison for those two. Teams have already admitted they are now actively looking for Ederson being far from his line when City are in possession and we are trying to force the issue.

United, Southampton - even the Lyon second-half goals are limiting him to a one-on-one spread because our defenders are racing 20 yards to chase back in.

Very few teams are now trying to close Eddie down inside the box, our triangles and overloads have become a thing of the past in the main, certainly when it comes to playing out from the back.

We have two static midfield anchors who aren't brave enough to drop into the hole and that allows teams to just sit back and let us become compressed and pass sideways.

Opponents are deliberately flighting passes between our centre-backs and the left-back, knowing Walker will probably have the pace to get back and recover most of the time on the opposite flank.

If we defended deeper, we could rely a lot more on teams coming on to us and if the ball does break down in transition, we have it covered.

We either have to buy proper legs for the midfield or defend a little deeper (the latter would be my preference) as we are devastating on the counter and it gives Sterling and Torres their own opportunities to stretch their legs in behind.

Pep ain't gonna do either :(
The only bit I don’t agree with is that Pep will take no action. He will. He will try and fix it. Lyon will have hurt him more than it hurt us.

Did very well considering how many players reportedly suffer from asthma & have to take the appropriate medication

Central defenders tend to have a longer sell by date than some outfield players. If they stay fit, they can go to 35 before they start to burn out.
They do, but this guy is seriously quick, pace is a major asset, once it starts to decline , he is half the player.

So Tixki did not fail to get a cb last summer?

Tixki spent all summer chasing Maguire, a player Pep wanted, then pulled out of the deal because it was not good value.

Tixki despite spending all summer chasing the said Maguire, once the club withdrew from the race to sign him , had no backup option?

Yes Pep was let down last summer, and it was obvious to all that Pep was pissed about it.
Ahh, so Pep's your inside man? Kudos, who needs Billyshears or Tolm when we've got you getting feedback over what everyone at the club thinks and sharing their innermost feelings.

Yes, Pam, and that’s what I’m hoping for here. He looks a good athlete and I would have thought any drop-off last season was more likely to be a temporary dip in form.

So we did not chase Maguire? what planet we you on?

Napoli fans iv talked to say Koulibaly had a bad season, one because of the coach and two he is really bad in a deep defensive line, hes much better playing in a high line which is perfect for us. Thats why he was so good under Sarri

To be fair to him, there have been serious issues at Napoli, especially early season.

"Napoli are set to take legal action against their own players as the row over their training retreat boycott escalated further on Wednesday.

The club's players and manager Carlo Ancelotti are in a furious stand-off with chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis which is threatening to engulf their season "

Not a happy camp

What does that "bad in a deep defensive line" mean? Can't martial the defence? Loses the opponent's attackers? Commits reckless fouls? Doesn't make a lot of sense - you are either a good defender or you are not. You can't be a disaster in one formation and suddenly beyond world class in another.

Mate I'd drop keeper! out, for the last few weeks he's just picked and picked and go on about the same thing over and over.
He's starting to grate on me now with his ridiculous posts.

You're very good at dodging the issue.
Dodging what? We chased the player all summer, we wanted him and it was widely reported he wanted to join us.

United became involved, made a crazy offer to Leicester and a much bigger contract to the player, hence we pulled out.

No problem with that, IF, we had a back up option, we did not.

From what they say, hes commited more fouls this season but its not his fault, the napoli back line has been chopped and changed all season Major troubles, hasnt had a consitant CB partner all season.

Yes you can

A slow defender in a high line is going to get caught for pace over the top like we are with garcia and otamendi. If they drop back 15 yards they eliminate some of the space and reliance on pace

If you watch Diego Carlos, when he plays deep he tends to lunge into tackles and gives lots of fouls just outside and in the box

Some systems suit players better than others

Pep isn't a fan of players that go to ground which is why otamendi has been frozen out as he can't resist diving into a challenge

I know that we've only signed two players, but i think they are going to surprise us Ake looked solid for Netherlands so much that Poland had to attack the other side during the game. Ferran torres is special that finish in the spain game was brilliant, hes not afraid to take players on and has that burst of speed but skill as well. he dosent run like a headless chicken either he uses his brain always looking for the pass / cross. His vision is excellent as well
