If we’re talking to Barcelona could it be concerning Dembele? Not that I’d want him (due to his attitude and fitness) but is he one of our backup options if we can’t get Kane or a swap for Sterling/Jesus? Dembele is going into the final year of his contract so would likely to be available this window for a very reasonable price as Barca given their financial situation can’t risk losing him on a free next year, he’s played in every forward position, numbers aren’t bad (when he’s fit) he’s got pace to burn and is young.

In many ways he’d seem like the perfect signing for us (young, gifted) other than his attitude as he just doesn’t seem to have that drive you need to be the very best, but a swap for Sterling makes a lot of sense assuming Sterling wants out as they have similar attributes as players (young and pacy) though arguably Dembele is a better finisher.

Problem with Dembele isn't just his poor attitude... he's got a poor injury record too - so I don't think he's an attractive proposition given his wages - even when he's towards the end of his contract he won't want to take a pay cut.

No one will match his contract at Barca, even if he see's out his contract and is a free agent.

Wealth in terms of earning power I would agree, but clubs like Barca, Rags, Real were iconic, and playing for them was more done as much for honour than financial gain, with a good chance of titles.

In the last decade that is no longer true, at most successful clubs, especially English ones your guaranteed to be well looked after financially but the very top players are more worried about titles and medals.

Look at Harry Kane, highly regarded by his boyhood club, great contract, but as a player he wants to see medals.

The iconic clubs are changing, the rags are no longer a major attraction, same with Real and Barca.
I used this as my source.

Barca are skint, on the decline and in desperate need of better players.

We want to reinvest in our side, have players Barca want but have to closely watch the FFP rules.

Anyone know how sales work in regards to FFP?

What I mean is, if we sold a player for £50 million but the buying club had a structure to pay City £10 million a year over 5 years, could City use the £50 million towards FFP in a single calendar year or only use the £10 million they receive?

If it’s the former then it makes perfect sense getting into bed with Barca. Let them get Laporte, Gundogan and Mahrez for vastly inflated fees and let them pay it over the next 20 years.

If it’s the latter, just tell them to fuck off and shove the friendly game up their arse.
