Canal+ pulling out of French TV deal, some seriously skint clubs over there should be taking advantage imo

I would wait for now, going to be more of this from TV companies and sponsors as it all the adjusts, the European leagues are goi g to be hit a lot worse than the premier league so worth seeing this out for the longer term impacts and what opportunities it gives us.

Big names in Europe are panicking about cash flow already and at the door of any banks that could potentially be interested. The banks funnily enough are in a fairly good shape currently so looking to invest - most however are investing internally and being very very risk averse in the loans space for obvious reasons.

They have given out crazy contracts and transfer fees for some time, even for the wealthy, you don't throw away your money.

It used to be an honour to play for the likes of Barca and Real, now both clubs have to pay way over market value for players to get them to sign.

Crazy situation, and so glad as a club we don't do that, and maybe one of the reasons we seem to be cooling on Little Alf.

Play for our club firstly to compete for titles and secondly to be well rewarded.
I'm sure that is part of their financial problem but I think they still rank above City and probably United RE overall wealth.
Still a bit to be discovered I feel. Perhaps the petty cash tin is full of IOU notes from a previous administration.

I do think Messi dragging it out is primarily driven to make his negotiating with Barca even more hardline
Yes, and at the risk of bankrupting his club for the best deal. He’s had a good screw out of Barcelona. Whilst I hate the club myself, if he had a shred of decency he should help the club who propelled him to the top of the world stage.

Would be no skin off his nose to drop to £250k a week for his final contract.

Wealth in terms of earning power I would agree, but clubs like Barca, Rags, Real were iconic, and playing for them was more done as much for honour than financial gain, with a good chance of titles.

In the last decade that is no longer true, at most successful clubs, especially English ones your guaranteed to be well looked after financially but the very top players are more worried about titles and medals.

Look at Harry Kane, highly regarded by his boyhood club, great contract, but as a player he wants to see medals.

The iconic clubs are changing, the rags are no longer a major attraction, same with Real and Barca.

Do agree pal, the two parties still love each other though.

Im happily married to my wife and she’s certainly at risk of bankrupting me - lol. And we’ve been together less time than Messi and Barca

Laporta getting back Pep back to Barcelona is going to be his mission for his entire presidency IMO. Think Pep is on record as saying that he'll never coach the first team there again, but quite frankly, I can see Pep taking a myriad of other positions in the Barca hierarchy once he's done coaching.

TBH, wouldn't surprise me if one day he wants to go back as president himself, in which case Laporta should be careful that he doesn't empower the guy who is going to dethrone him.
Imagine being the coach with Pep as president

I think if the Catalan independence movement hadn’t been brutally crushed by the Spanish establishment, he would have liked to have been the first coach of its national team. That doesn’t look like happening anytime soon, however

My gut tells me he'll end up in politics. He tends to mix in very rarified circles for a football coach.
