Picture the conversation, "Hey Sergio, we're yarding you, we're not signing a striker to replace you and we've decided to tell you now, just for the fun of it."

or they got the nod from Haaland, then his agent thought having a tour of European debt ridden clubs was a good idea and then we get Pep saying what he said yesterday...

Or “we’ve not needed you all season, new system is not suited to you and we feel to continue with you on the outside after your great career with us would be wrong”.

We've been sending messages all week.

To Sergio, to Mino, to Dortmund and others.

Most importantly, to our own squad.

The first art of negotiation is the other party being told you are willing to walk away.
You been reading the art of the deal recently? My take is that our real target audience is the tiny number of clubs that could afford £150 million in the current climate. The message is we’re not paying that fee are you? Simple fact of supply and demand, the price is set by the seller but no matter how prized your asset it’s practically worthless if no one is prepared to pay the price.

Isn't everyone!! He's the guy in the know ;)
The best situation would be for our existing strikers to suddenly hit goal scoring form.

This would make the fake 9 just an option or midfield scoring heroes happy as well so they can concentrate on defense and generating goal chances.

Let them show Pep they are fit to follow Sergio not redundant as strikers.

I'd say there'll certainly be at least one club willing to throw caution to the wind and pay out the nose if it meant sealing the deal

Pep told us everything we need to know yesterday. We are 100% in the market for a top striker, and we’ve been quoted a price by the selling club. We’ve informed the selling club and everyone else who’s potentially interested in the player that we’re not willing to pay the asking price. This was Pep as the representative of the football side of the business confirming that he supports the financial side of the business 100%. This sends a message to the selling club that we’re not going to be bullied into paying over the odds for the player. I fucking love our club and the way we do our business.
