What I don't understand is, why didn't we make a final offer for Kane with deadline, a longer time ago and then walk away earlier.

Because there is a lot of guess work around these parts on what actually happened

Some say we were led to believe some sort of gentleman's agreement existed between kane and levy. So we bid using those figures

Some say we bid so much with players added

Only a few people know the truth.

Kane has never handed a transfer request in. He could have and that might have helped

I said as much earlier. Putting a deadline on it affords us the time to look for alternatives. Leaving it to deadline day would have been madness.
