Whats the difference to last summer, when they were convinced he was going to United?

There is clearly still work to be done on our end for this happen.

United were indeed interested at one stage, but the fact they instead paid £40m for De Beek, suggested money was an issue last summer.

Grealish may have been promised something to renew with Villa last summer, and I suspect he felt some loyalty to his boyhood club, but it does appear he is leaving and City is the only show in town at present.

Do we really want him does Pep want him because the rags say there after him to like they after Haaland..

Seems the rags transfer plan last half dozen years is go for anyone Man City go for! Must save them a fortune in scouts..

Pep has wanted him for 18 months. I wouldn't worry too much about United at present, they have money issues and other priorities.

He has a gentlemans agreement with their chairman, thats what Villa fans said when he signed the contract that he could leave for a lower fee / release clause to a champions league club.

Not sure we need another attacking midfielder when we've already got Gundo, KDB, Silva, Mahrez & Foden who all overlap what Grealish would bring.

I was just in the PSG prematch thread and everyone seems to think the team will be Ederson, Walker, Dias, Stones, Zinch, Rodri, Gundo, KDB, Silva, Mahrez, Foden.

Who gets dropped if Grealish arrived today? And then factor in a striker coming in on top of that. Sterling, Jesus, Torres already on the bench for more traditional front 3 options.

Quite possibly, although I would expect even a 'gentleman's agreement' to have something down on paper at the time of his actual renewal.

Grealish is represented by Stellar and they would certainly not leave their client exposed like that, lifelong Villa fan or not.

I suspect an agreed buyout figure for a club in the Champions League.

His injury is real.

I guess this means the Messi move is definitely dead in the water.

Here you are for people that think he wouldnt do well in our team this website has put his stats this season into our team and i think it will surprise a few considering hes doing this at Villa. Hes at the top on nearly all of these.

I would guess it is all succession planning for the next cycle?

Gundogan is 31 in October.

Mahrez is 30.

KDB is 30 in June.

Grealish is 26 in September, which means his peak years will coincide with maybe two players in the above list either degrading or possibly not being at the club in the next two years, legislating for KDB's new deal?

For the interim, Grealish is another quality addition and would legislate for Mahrez at AFCON in January, injuries and other factors.
