It's Quiet Thread 15 - Txiki Blinders

Messi's interview on Saturday could be the 'light the blue touchpaper' moment.

I can't see that being positive for our Champions League preparation, if Messi says he's off (when everyone will assume it's City or PSG), or says he's joining City 1 week before the match.

Talk about overshadowing...

I am intrigued to see how Laporta can present a sporting project to Messi that makes him think that he should stick around

Well something has to happen soon as his contract is up in 6 weeks. I’m actually surprised it’s so quiet.

I know Messi is a special case but.....serious question......can anyone think of a player that has ever run his contract down this far and stayed at the club as a player...ever?

Im not saying he definitely won’t stay just wondering if anyone can think of a similar case since the Bosman ruling?

Unusual to say the least!

would prefer Kane he is a top professional hungry for success and would not demand a crazy wage. (Runs away)

As opposed to Messi who's notoriously unprofessional and hates success?

All discussions around Messi's wages have to include the context that the club's own accountants conducted a study that credits him with bringing in over €200m year of Barcelona's pre-pandemic €850m a year revenue.

A promise of an overhaul in the squad (which he has leaked) and a strong coach (he also has leaked about having talked to Flick and Klopp... lol). But Messi will know it’s all promises

Barca haven't made him an offer though so he is being forced to wait

But if they don't have the money then the decision is being made for him maybe
I think they don’t have have money because messi is the money? La Liga Just got the espn money for American rights which is massive. Think he’s quite literally all they have. Loyal lad obviously. Not saying espn would do the deal without knowing if he’s stay but would they?

‘Listen Lionel, I know you probably fancy playing for Champions and CL finalists City under Pep, in the Premier League next season but hear me out...we’ll have the same players because we can’t afford anybody and have shit loads of debt to pay off. Because of that we’re sticking with Koeman because no top manager is stupid enough to join our shit show right now. Also, we don’t have the cash to pay your wages so if you could take a wage cut too then that’d be great. Did I mention we’ll be getting Eric Garcia back?’

If they want a new superstar to spearhead their new era then surely they don't have the money for Messi as well?

I don’t think they can get one either way. Got a close pal, big Barca fan, they’re fuuuucked. Stuck with griezmann and ousmane. They’re deep in the muck but making changes. I’m
Sure he’ll be convinced to stay. They’re making moves and I’m sure he’ll be obligated to stay because it’s ‘progressive’.

obv Kun the big one.
