Amen. Perhaps we're also getting a possible insight into his character/mentality, why Deschamps, seemingly had an issue selecting him?

If anything, the team has shown for nigh on two seasons that life has gone on without as a reliable mainstay? As you rightly state, he was in possession of the shirt at the start of the season but a right-sided defender in Dias can actually do his job far better.

Stones has stepped up to the plate when the transfer planning seemed to suggest Dias and Laporte would be the centre-back partnership for the seasons to come, with Ake bought to play back up to Laporte.

Stones would have been told this summer in light of his contract entering his final year, yet his form has called for otherwise.

If anything, harsh as it would be, Ake, would be the easier sale to dispose of right now?

Unless Laporte and the disrespectful timing of these quotes, suggests he is now forcing the issue to leave.
Kounde has a release clause….

Or bringing THB back into the fold, either option saves on transfer fees and wages to spend on a striker. Been awhile since I've seen THB but isn't he right footed but played on the left for the U23s with Garcia on the right?
I was classing THB amongst the EDS.Yep,i think he is more comfortable on the right.

Actually pissed off with Laporte he could have waited till the summer
I wouldn’t be too pissed off
He hadn’t actually said anything
Every player not in the team tomorrow will be gutted and ignore the fact were there because of the 11 that played
A champions league medal will cheer them all up!!

Room for one more?

As long as they don't offer us pennies. He's £70m all day to those in need.

I'm still optimistic he will stay at least another year.
I think we would do a spurs
Quote varane plus £30m Or keep him to his contract
One injury to Dias or stones and Laporte is back in every week

If we win this weekend your looking at £120m Champs money
Add last years around £70m
Now add £150m for coming 1st in England
Sponsors & CFG + Sane, Nico, Harrison, Angelino transfers would give City the bullets to go £200m on both Kane & Grealish leaving next year to go for LB & possibly Dino replacement
People are forgetting the bonuses the club will land from our own stable of sponsors for winning the Champions League.

It's sizeable.

Not a chance we keep Laporte around if he doesn't want to be here, Pep has spoken at length about purging the "bad faces" from the squad. There was clearly some sort of issue between the two of them and Laporte has made his feelings publically clear a few times.

Real are going to sell Varane most likely as well as a load of others like Isco, Ceballos and so on. Ramos potentially leaving opens up some big wages. Makes a lot of sense.

Ake's mare at Newcastle raises questions and the others aren't there. Laporte is a first choice CB in any other team and it takes one injury to Dias to be back at square one.

Agreed. We must keep Laporte, even if we have to sell Ake to placate him.

City did not legislate for two things last summer - a right-footed Dias being better on the left-side of a two, Stones reminding people why we bought him the first place.

I don't see anything in Ake which suggests he is nothing but a slightly above average centre-back which was bought to back-up Laporte.

Now that Laporte must also compete with Dias, the smartest decision is to get our £40m back on Ake while we can, coupled with relatively low wages other teams can still afford.

Nathan can still walk off with his medals.

Ain't happening is it? :(

Raspberry or Strawberry?

But remove yourself first from this mental picture please, Pudge?

I think selling Laporte for £70m+ and buying someone who can play centre back and defensive midfield would make us a more balanced squad.

I know it wasn't the biggest link, but the lad from Marseilles, Kamara, would be the perfect understudy for Fernandinho and he's played a couple of seasons in Ligue 1 and Europa at CB so he's not makeshift cover.

As much as I love Fern and hope he renews, it wouldn't surprise me at all if physically he falls off a cliff over the summer and ends up playing <10 games as a 36 year old.

The big question is how much Pep rates Aké.

There's no point selling Aké to keep Laporte happy only for Laporte to demand a transfer next summer because he's still not starting.

Madrid are talking to Sevilla about Kounde, but could see them come in for Laporte with. Varane, money, their two starting CBs are gone this summer Ramos and Varane. So they will have cash from Varane money to get Laporte.
