Haha, I know... sorry! :) I think that if the person has lived here pretty much their whole life and they want to represent our country in order to 'give something back' then why not? But you will always get people who are doing it to gain something for themselves, i.e. increase their reputation by playing for the better international side.

So you have to be born in a country to play for them? Should Podolski play for Poland and Hargreaves for Canada (I don't think he stepped foot in England till he was called up for the national team)?

hargreaves parents are welsh and english.

podolski came to germany when he was 2 years old

Every case is different and for me, this kid is not english
