Jacinda Ardern

Blair, Cameron and Obama, whatever you might think of them all, were younger. We seem to be going backwards in that respect
Not really, Blair was 44 when he became PM, Obama was 47 and I think cane on 44, Boris trump was 53 when he somehow became PM.
I mean someone in their thirties, Ardern was 37 when she became PM, I just don't see that ever happening here it in the US for that matter, perhaps we need young leaders?

33 years for me.
Still sound Stalybridge.
Have loads of Brit friends here, they all sound like they just arrived. Some been here longer than me.
Yet when I lived in LA for 2 years I started picking up American, its infectious, more than Aussie.
I have read it often depends on the age when you immigrated. Typically individuals past the age of 16 will maintain the accent they had in their country/area of origin. Younger children will eventually lose their original accent and and pick up the accent where they currently reside.

If course this is not a hard and fast rule.

NZ prime Minister.
Complete opposite to Margaret Thatcher.

I'm beginning to think she is the best world leader out there, she handled the coronavirus better than any other leader in my opinion. Now saying economic growth is not so important.... I think I will move there :)

We’ve got neighbours who moved back after nearly 30 years there... the place is amazing, the leadership seems to be for the people but they were frightened to death of the earthquakes...

I would agree.

Just watched her self recorded explanation of her cabinet selections. Regardless of your politics it is interesting that she talks so knowledgeably and freely about those chosen and why with no apparent script. She comes across as she owns the process. Cannot imagine a UK PM doing this without a host of advisers and script to hand. Very impressive.

It's quite easy to admire leaders when you don't have to live under their policies, to be fair. But let's be honest, nowadays, anyone who isn't a complete car crash is considered amazing. I'd honestly welcome David Cameron or Gordon Brown back at this point.

God I miss that place. We should have been back there yesterday for Christmas and beyond.

Thats a shame mate - I am sure many would love to join you - which is why they keep us cunts out lol ..... any society has at least one or two but they seem to exist with a degree of civil decency and decorum most of the old established countries could dream of. Hope you manage to get there soon enough.

This woman is a qualified advanced motorist.

I have many extended family and friends in NZ. They say she is genuinely loved by people and even admired by opponents. Not all of them voted for her either. Her use of social media makes her seem genuine and her decision making processes transparent and authentic. She cuts through the MSM and vested interests by going straight to the people.
Would be interesting to see if this could be scaled up in a larger country. I guess AOC is the nearest thing in America but cannot think of any British politician who achieves this.

I do actually like her whenever I see her, but I also read an article about how she still hasn't managed to raise standards of living for poorer communities. But at least she isn't actively trying to harm them like some governments I could name.

2 yrs in office she was able to say...
"We've created 92,000 additional jobs. We've built more than 2,200 additional state houses. We have banned offshore speculators. We've planted 140 million trees. We've got better cancer care through radiation machines, pharmac funding and created essential cancer agency,

"We've delivered cheaper doctor visits. We are building more classrooms in schools for a 100,000 students. We've hired 2000 more doctors and students. We've boosted incomes for 3, 84,000 low income families,"

I read an article a couple of years ago that described how her government had introduced a budget based entirely on improving wellbeing for NZ citizens. It included massive investment in mental health services, stopping family violence and eliminating child poverty. I was impressed that a political leader would prioritise these areas and base their entire budget on improving wellbeing.
