Jack Grealish

Gundogan is 31 this year, KBD is 30 this year. Bernardo doesn't seem to have a position set in stone, he's been played as a false 9, a winger and an 8. Foden the same. Grealish will be able to compete with Gundogan and KDB and eventually take the mantle, seems like a no brainer to me

English contingent, Gundo/Kev/Mahrez not getting any younger, Raz/Mahrez needing new deals, possibility as said by many that someone may fancy a new challenge.

Lots of variables in play, and then it also comes down to do you rate the guy, and personally I think he’s awesome and would be devastating in our team.

I like him too, but I don't like him more than anyone in our squad. So for me, I'm not selling anyone to make room for him. I take your point about succession planning but with all due respect to Grealish, he is to KDB what Jesus is to Aguero IMO. The other problem he's got is that Pep is madly in love with Gundo and will most likely continue to play him and KDB in every game that they're available for that matters.

The variable that I think unlocks Grealish's City move, is someone in the front line pitching up next week with an offer from somewhere and saying "I really want to leave".

Seems pointless to me.

If there's any need for rotation at 8, we have Ferran Torres, Mahrez, Sterling and Jesus who can all play on the wing while Foden (20) and Bernardo (26) cover KDB and Gundogan.

By the time KDB and Gundo are not automatic starters in 3 seasons or so (at 34 and 33 years old), Foden will have matured into an 8 and there'll be a dozen players Grealish's level who've come onto the market and won't be...29 which Grealish would be by then.

If we were going to buy a successor to KDB and Gundo this early, it would be someone in the 18-21 year old range who a) Pep can mould and b)won't be pushing 30 by the time those 2 leave - probably in the same way Ferran Torres was expected to replace Mahrez after a few seasons as understudy.

The numbers are excellent for Villa. But they're not for me within the context of our squad. We've got four guys who would get those numbers playing for Villa at least. I don't see anything that would make him stand out beyond Foden, Bernardo, Mahrez, KDB, Gundo et al. And he has no unique attributes that make me think that he's a missing piece in the squad. Talented player for sure, and if he was going on a free or he had a contractual issue I would almost see why City would be all over it. But at 75 million with the players we already have, I can only see it if we think we're about to lose someone.
Agreed, can't see us keeping those players and adding Grealish to it, but if someone does leave, who will it be?

Sterling is not suited to the way we play anymore and Torres is far too raw. Grealish is a massive upgrade on them its as simple as that.

When you say "the way we play", do you mean the way we started to play 6 months ago as a reaction to having no fit strikers, or do you mean the way we will play after spending £100m on Haaland or Kane?

Because it should be obvious that the two are not the same, and yet for some reason I keep seeing people pretend like we're going to continue playing without a striker?

If you read any of Villa's forums then they seem confident that he is going to stick around for another season.
