Jack Grealish

He thrives in the space available in a counter attacking team Like Leicester, In a possession based team playing against a fleet of parked buses he just isn’t as effective.
And he is a flat track bully.

Looks amazing against weak opposition, disappears in the big matches.

They got totally and utterly outplayed off Southampton and Grealish did nothing until the game was gone and out of reach.
Nonsense.Villa were by far the better team second half and were just very unlucky,Grealish tormenting throughout.Saints had four shots on target and scored four goals.
He's also a natural leader with bags of character and rarely gets injured.

I watched that game and Southampton were head and shoulders above Villa all the way through. Grealish did absolutely nothing till Southampton took their foot off the gas and the game had gone.

I like Grealish and would like him here, but I will ask you again, can you name one game against a quality team where he has stood out or produced a match winning performance (Liverpool this year excluded)? Mahrez used to do it, but he has not been able to make the step up.

You are trying to make Grealish sound like David Silva. Silva was light years ahead of Grealish at the same stage of their career.

If Foden has a good night tonight, some of the hype around Grealish will drop. That will actually benefit Grealish and take some pressure off him because it has become absutely ridiculous over the last week.

Every game he plays he stands out, because he is top class. In our team he would be even better and he's make our current players that bit better too.

Why the comparisons with Silva? why not Mahrez or Sterling or even Bernardo?

I'll leave our exchange there, because we are going round in circles.

Because Bernardo and Mahrez are not the game changers and match winners you claim Grealish is.

Sterling has over 100 goals for us, playung at the top level. It is pointless comparing him to Grealish as Grealush does not even compare.

You say he stands out in every game yet he was totally anonymous in 3 games against us last season. In the Cup Final, the game where it really mattered he did absolutely nothing and was out shone by Foden.

You are right, lets leave it here. Hes a good player but absolutely nowhere near the top top class (Silva, Gerrard, Lampard)

All players have poor games, since the start of this season, playing in an improved Villa team,he has looked fantastic and the best left sided player in the league.

As for top class, currently,he'd be better than all but KDB in our team.

No he is not as good as Silva, Lampard or Gerrard you are right.
Txiki may as well pack it in because he is never going to find someone on that level. What a ridiculous comment.

Be realistic, what do you want Grealish to do?

How about he win the premier league by himself for Villa, would he then be worthy of being in the squad?

That's a terrible take.

Villa were arguably the better side, James Ward-Prowse stuck in 2 free kicks in 10 minutes which completely distorted how the game was being played up to that point.

Grealish was superb in the second half and the could very easily have drawn in the end so to say it was out of reach is simply not true at all.

Alex McCarthy was Southampton's best player and made 3 or 4 incredible saves - a couple off Grealish shots.

Torres scored a hat trick against Germany last night and has 4 Champions League goals in 4 games. 3 of them playing for a new team, in a new country and in a new position. Thats better than anything Grealish has achieved in his entire career, despite being 5 years younger.

The highlight of Grealish's career so far is a man of the match performance against Liverpool and winning the award for being the most fouled player in the premier league last year.

I am comparing him to those tyoe of players because thats the level FI is suggesting Grealish is at.

Thanks Dom,exactly as i remember it.Reading @Nightmare Walking analysis i thought i was watching a different game.

Because he has been loyal to Villa.

When he gets his next move,he will have the same opportunities to shine.

Germany were fucking awful last night too.

I doubt he's a stats man, but I quickly looked it up and the xG for the game was Villa 2.45-1 Southampton.

Southampton's goals were excellent moments of individual skill but not representative of the run of play. Villa (Grealish and Luiz) created a lot more chances and McCarthy made some big time saves to keep them at bay.

That's not to say Southampton didn't deserve to win because their goals were out of nothing, but replay that game 100 times and Villa win a lot more than they lose.

He could be......but more importantly,he's still better than most of our current midfielders.

I thought we were stopping this disscussion as we were getting nowhere.

I like Grealish, hes a very good player and I would like him in our squad. But you are over rating him something rotten and under rating our players so badly.

Grealish is 25 years old, never left him home town team where is comfortable and has won nothing. He has only just broken through at international level.

He has had a good run of form since lockdown but apart from the Liverpool match this year he did not stand out against any of the top teams.
Grealish also has the comfort of playing one game per week. No European football and only just started playing international football. That makes a massive difference. The top players in the world are playing every few days and flying round Europe.

You say he is better than all out midfielders and wide players on the back of a decent run of form. Has he performed at the level Bernardo was at a few years ago, when he was winning player of the tournament at international level and a key man in a team winning trebles? I don't think he has. Has he ever played as well as Mahrez did when Leicester won the league? Again he has not. It is absolutely pointless comparing him to Sterling as Raheem out scores him at a ratio of 3:1. Is his potential higher than Ferran and Phil? I don't think so. Both of them are 20 years old and have already shown they can perform at a higher level than Grealish has ever played at.

Grealish is a very good player. He would offer us something different and I would definitely like to see him play for us. You are over hyping him something ridiculous though.

I'll stop now,as you are saying nothing different.Which i disagree with.

XG is the biggest pile of wank as a metric for measuring performance.

Every single news report reckons Southampton won the match easily, as I do myself. This is from the BBC:

The final scoreline flattered Villa, who only sporadically showed the form that earned them a full 12 points from 12 at the start of the campaign.

This is from the sun:

In truth they won this one by a country mile as they underlined why they are the Premier League’s away experts as they clocked up their NINTH win on the road since their 3-1 win here four days before Christmas.

Every single news report says the same.
