Jack Grealish

He’s flavour of the month but I don’t see him fitting in here. He’s playing primarily wide left with a license to drift, if villa aren’t willing to play him centrally with two players backing him up and giving him freedom to be the main man and chief creator there then I don’t see how anybody can expect him to be upto the role of playing centrally for us.

Which then leaves him as playing the same position for us as he currently does. we don’t need somebody like him in that area we need pace. we have Bernardo and Foden already who are both more than capable of playing a similar position put wide, not to mention Peps love affair with playing sterling wide left.

He’s more of a united buy of splashing big money on the latest hottest thing and worrying about him not fitting into the side later.

No.

Not a Pep player. Dribbler who drifts. Pep wants a 2 touch player who makes the ball do the work, pulling the opposition around to create the space to exploit.

Not saying he’s not a good player, but far more suited to United’s game than ours, and I’ll be surprised if Pogba doesn’t leave and he doesn’t go to Trafford.

If he ends up at the Swamp, with a manager who isn't clueless, then they are title challengers again.

He's the latest in a long list of english players who's worth gets inflated due to a great run of form which includes the likes of maddison, zaha etc.

He wasn't that great last season and his current form is clouding peoples judgement. The chances created stat that gets touted for him is probably the worst metric to use. A corner that is headed over or even a simple pass resulting in a shot from 30 yards gets included in it. A much better metric is the 'big chances created' which shows he only created 8 last season. For comparison even sterling in his 'poor' season had more with 9 while de-bruyne created 33. So I don't get this revisionist history that he was great last season or has been for a while. Him being the best player/performer in a poor team isn't the same as him being a great player or some special talent and some seem to be confusing the two. I mean he went a period of 15 games towards the final stretch of last season where he only contributed 1 goal and 1 assist as villa just about managed to stay up.

Now he's had a very good start to the current season and clearly there's a good player there but the only standout quality about him currently is his ability to carry the ball and drive forward with his dribbling which is a quality the team already possesses in the likes of bernardo, foden. But even more importantly it's one that's not of much priority in a system which primarily focuses more on a set pattern of play in the final third relying on quick interchanges of passes, movement and positional play. A player who is very good at dribbling or always want the ball to feet is not close to as effective in this system.

For a team like villa where they operate more on the counter and the play is built around him, he can shine and his qualities are of more use but in a systemic, possession-based team where you're up against 10 players sitting deep, he will struggle to make the same impact as the like of mahrez have found who is a more talented player but has struggled to make the best use of his abilities in the team as he did for leicester.

It's why I always find it baffling how people fail to see the importance of sterling to the side and system and the reason he's been peps most used player since he came which unfortunately seems to have caught up to him. That intelligence of movement and positional play for the wingers in particular is arguably more important for the system than any dribbling/passing ability(not to say sterling lacks in that department or else he would've been sold time ago), and in a team that already has some of the most technical passers and dribblers around its the last thing they need. It's been a big part of why the side has struggled recently in the final third as sterling's form has fallen off. Torres seem to be showing some of the intelligence in movement that sterling has so hopefully he can step in but a pacy intelligent attacker is what the team needs most not another dribbler who wants the ball to feet especially one with the prices being touted for.

So are we saying Pep doesn’t like players who can beat a man and dribble(it’s certainly what we’re lacking)? He had Messi, Henry at Barca and Robben and Ribery at Bayern and bought Mahrez here.

Good current form.

Remember at the start of the season people were praising Calvert-Lewin as the next best thing.

Lol. Good joke. He is a good player but don’t be ridiculous. United becoming a title challenger is not because of Grealish but rather they have a good squad

You like Grealish and think he is a good player- OK good for you. But please stop acting like he is the saviour that would come into our team and win us the league and champions league. He has played for Aston Villa for years and not like he is coming from Real Madrid or something.

Ah yes, because all players that have the ability to help change a clubs fortunes have to come from Real Madrid or something.....Gotcha ;-)

Also,i think you missed the part about a decent manager, which was kinda relevant to my comment.

I like Grealish but I think you are over egging it here. Take away the Liverpool game this season, then can you name one absolutely stand out or match winning performance against a top team?
Against us 3 times last season he did absolutely nothing. He ran quite fast in the game at the Etihad, he was anonymous at Villa Park and he was out shone by a 19 year old kid, on the big stage, in the cup final at Wembley.
Now you can say he is playing in a poor team at Villa. Yet Le Tissier played in a similar position for a lower league team and still managed to stand out against the top teams in the country.
Belgium without Eden Hazard would not finish in top 6 in England imo. Grealish has performed well against a shit Ireland and a Belgium team who won easily and played in second gear.
Grealish is a very good player, I would like to see how he gets on in a good team and I would like him here.
Yet I have seen nothing to suggest he is a top class, world level performer like David Silva was at his age.
Grealish is a very good player with a skill set that we could do with. Imo he is not the difference between a team fighting for Champions League positions and winning the league though.

Not only Madrid obviously, but I guess all the players in our squad are drooling over the prospect of working with an Aston Villa player coming to lead them to glory

He's played superbly in every game Villa have had this season,he almost single handedly turned around the Saints game from a 4-0 deficit. He is lifting their team significantly.
I'm not suggesting he could be the sole difference regarding Champions league places and winning the league as i have stated twice. My comment suggested a quality manager would be that difference if he was to add Grealish to an already talented and underperforming squad.

They got totally and utterly outplayed off Southampton and Grealish did nothing until the game was gone and out of reach.

Sign him.

I know hes going to score more, create more, run more and definitely look more interested than Mahrez does 99% of the time.

There is no reason that if he joined he wouldn't kick on and really go up a few levels like basically everyone else does who gets coached by Pep.

So why has Mahrez not kicked on under Pep? Do you think it is just a case of Mahrez's style not suiting us, or just purely down to application? Strange really as Mahrez has far better skill and technique than Grealish. Mahrez has also continually succeeded in international football and was the main man for an average team, which won the league.

Cos hes a fairy has the skillset but not the mindset.

Yet he did it under Ranieri and won player of the year. Something is not right with Mahrez. He should be amazing in this team.

He thrives in the space available in a counter attacking team Like Leicester, In a possession based team playing against a fleet of parked buses he just isn’t as effective.

This, coupled with being a big fish in a small pond over there, as opposed to the tadpole in the ocean he is at our club.

He doesn't seem to have the mentality at all to be able to step up at a big club littered with stars.

No doubting his talent but I'm hoping Torres will be our left winger going forward and seeing as that's where Grealish plays, we don't actually need him.

Plus he's English so he'll probably cost around 100m which we're just never going to pay. The only way we'll spend that kind of money is if it's on a proven world class player.
