Jack Rodwell is the word from former manager

I think he will be a great signing. Very happy with this if it all goes through. Fits young hungry and talented profile as well

Does anyone else think Royle got his info from Everton rather than any connections he'd have with us?

Top shout from the OP, I think this is a great signing and I have less reservations about it than I would if we'd of signed Martinez for big money. De rossi would've been a dream but did any of us really think it would happen?

People that think this is based on one good performance against us need to give their heads a wobble. Hes been brilliant at our place every time he's played. Comparisons to Henderson ate daft as well. Rodwell is technically very good and has a good engine. His promise and the way his career has gone thus far is very similar to Kompany's at this age and if he turns out to be half as good we have a bargain

my reservations are not about his potential, rather his injury record.

Hence my comparison to Vinny who had injury issues at that age. He's 21 and made over 100 appearances for Everton.

He'd be good for the City of 6/7 years ago. Very average signing for me. Looks like UEFA are in charge of our transfers this summer, thought we would have a bit more backbone than this if I'm honest.

Someone put on here our MAIN squad and tell me where we need improving because our main squad is outstanding and hard to improve that is to go straight into our player squad

6 years ago we had shit like Dabo and Barton in midfield. Give the lad a chance ffs

Of course il give him a chance, but if I think someone isn't good enough il say it...hope he proves me wrong. I just feel this was the summer to really kick on and leave the rest for dust, from what Mancini has said he thinks the same...Rodwell is hardly an adequate replacement for YaYa when he goes to the ACON.

The right type of player, at the right age and the right price. He'll develop well here given time and patience. Good signing, could be great.

See this is a more rational response than the other one i picked you up on

Most of us Everton fans are delighted with this tbh. He was behind Gibson (sorry lads!) and Fellaini anyway and Barkley has 10X more potential than Jack. We won't have let him go for a small fee either. Wish the lad all the best at you lot though.

I'm sure he'll flourish now he's going to be playing football instead of rugby.
ahaha they said the same about lescott

The FA Cup and PL winner who was a main-stay in the best defence of the last 2 seasons.

I'm sure that Scouse Blue aren't really that happy, he was one of their 'Future World Class Players' not too long ago, a player that Taggart has been constantly trying to pry from their hands.

Hi all not at all claiming to be ITK, just passing on info that was given to me on a recent cruise to the Norwegian Fjords, on the cruise was Joe Royle as Guest speaker and he stated that City are in advanced talks to take Rodwell.

I dont know anymore whatsoever as the cruise is over, so make of it what you like... but he was very convincing!!!

Nice one,itk.

OP was obviously right, but I'd still love to know why Joe Royle knows these things.
He probably has genuine contacts from both sides

He has hardly ever played centre back so he's not very good supposed defensive cover. He's gone off the boil for the past few seasons, sure he put in a good performance on Silva, but we don't have to man mark people out of games like Everton do because we're better than them. It doesn't at all appear like Mancini would have been overly keen, he's moaned about a lack of signings and suddenly this just comes about? He's a decent squad player true, but for £15-20 million should we be paying that amount for a squad player?

I see this as a signing with the home grown quota in mind. Stuart Taylor left on a free, Barry isn't getting any younger, Johnson is unlikely to be at City long-term. So we need to always be on the look out for home grown players. I also wonder if that's what the thinking is/was with Scott Sinclair (if there was any truth in that story).
