When you read the article not the headline he seems to make a decent enough point. I wish the lad luck. However, Adam Johnson said something very similar when he joined Sunderland and he's hardly made his mark there after "dropping a level"

I honestly don't know why people thow the word "English" in there, as if to suggest we somehow discriminate against english players? It's a truly bizarre suggestion, that we intentionally play worse players just because we don't like the english? It's absurd. We play the best players possible, regardless of nationality, the fact that the best players aren't english is not our fault. Should we be discriminating against more talented foreign players, in order to let english players play instead? It just doesn't make any sense.
