Jack Rodwell

Played well.. Seems self-assured which is important as a "rising star" coming into a team of current stars.

To be honest he didn't have to do much for the game, and for large periods I forgot he was even playing, but when he was called upon he got the job done.

His one mistake and the general team performance will draw the attention though which is a shame because the debut was actually, very good.

As a first match he was OK despite that pass.
We know he has to improve a lot and he knows too.

Somehow we correct this mistakes with winning matches, remember Lescott's gaffe against QPR.
If we dont win that match Lescott would be enemy number one.

Looking forwrad to see some of his shooting because he never really had the chance today and he is probably better at it then NDJ.

As Rodwell is tall he should be in the box at corners. and he is not that fast, so someone faster should be outside the box. Like Nasri, he is good shooter and fast.

Looks promising. Good on the ball but he needs to learn to pick up and stay with his man when we're defending. Overall a decent debut and a good prospect. IMO

Put himself about, made a big challenge early on and never once looked overawed.
Keep him free of injuries and I think he could reach Kompanys level(he looks centre half material for me)and some.

An impressive debut, unfortunate his one mistake led to a goal, however,he showed alot of promise and will prove very useful - unspectacular but solid.
the "mistake" was on the edge of Soton's box. No way should that lead to a goal. We have learned nothing from previous games about over-committing. Still not convinced we have the tactical nous to unpark the bus, VK gets sucked forward for corners, someone should cover. Nearly cost us the prem, it cost us against Napoli.
Rodwell got an awkward first game out of the way without much fuss.
Will take time to gell with a team that plays keepball, rather than long-ball.

He looked ok but seemed unwilling to really leave an impact on the game. Continually passed sidewards and backwards and pass over responsibility to his teammates.

One of the criticism from Evertons fans of him and a similar criticism of De Jong by City fans is they pass sidewards too often slowing down the tempo of the game. Hopefully this was due to nerves and he is more positive in future games.

The mistake is just one of those things. Hopefully it wont affect him. For me there is still space foir a deep lying playmaker in that position such as a De rossi.

Good game rodders. Forget the short pass, lescott nearly cost us the league last season.
Must be a toffee thing:)

Players like Busquets make a career from 200 two yard passes sideways at 97% accuracy in every game.

-- Sun Aug 19, 2012 6:55 pm --

Or Lescott's winner at Villa was what won us the league ;)
